Flying Capacitor Voltage Programed Mode Control for Switched-Capacitor Converters
IEEE Journal of Emerging and Selected Topics in Power Electronics, 2020This article introduces a control method for switched-capacitor (SC) converters used directly or indirectly in emerging point-of-load (PoL) applications. Compared to conventional methods of controlling SC converters relying on the simple transformer model, the introduced method takes into account system dynamics and improves transient response by ...

Flying-capacitor boost converter
2012 Twenty-Seventh Annual IEEE Applied Power Electronics Conference and Exposition (APEC), 2012This paper introduces the flying-capacitor dc-dc boost converter. In the proposed topology, a high voltage gain ratio and improved conversion efficiency are achieved with low inductor core and copper losses. The input current ripple of the new converter is low while its ripple frequency is high, yielding a low-sized input filter.

The ARCP flying capacitor inverter
2005 European Conference on Power Electronics and Applications, 2005Reduction of switching losses is an important issue in development of high power multilevel converters. Improvement of the known soft switching techniques to find application in multilevel topologies is therefore a worth attempt started recently. This paper proposes a new auxiliary circuit for the flying capacitor multilevel converters realizing soft ...

New flying capacitor multilevel converter
2011 IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics, 2011This paper proposes an improved version of conventional flying capacitor multilevel converter known as active flying capacitor converter. The proposed converter replaces the clamping capacitor of the three-level flying capacitor converter by number of series connected half or full bridge cells, and uses these active cells to generate multilevel voltage

Active capacitor voltage control of flying capacitor multilevel converters
IEE Proceedings - Electric Power Applications, 2004A novel control strategy for voltage balancing of flying capacitor multilevel converters controlled with phase shifted SPWM is presented. Based on the polarity of the phase current, a relatively small square wave is added to the nominal modulation signals (typically sinusoidal) controlling the converter switches and in this way the flying capacitor ...

Capacitor Voltage Balancing Schemes in Flying Capacitor Multilevel Inverters
2007 IEEE Power Electronics Specialists Conference, 2007This paper focuses on the development of capacitor voltage balancing methods in a flying capacitor multilevel inverter (FCMLI). Three such strategies have been described and have been applied to a five-level CMLI. The sinusoidal pulse width modulation technique has been used while making the proposals.

This paper investigates universal start-up procedure for Flying Capacitor Converter (FLC). Main part of this procedure is pre-charging of the dc-link and flying capacitors. This method is usable for voltage pre-charging in rectifier as well as inverter mode of the multilevel FLC converter. This specific feature is based on use of converter topology and

Multicell converters are an interesting alternative for medium voltage and high power applications, because of the increased number of output voltage levels and apparent frequency. The two most significant types of multicell converter are the flying capacitor multicell (FCM) converter and its derivative, stacked multicell (SM) converter.
