Structure for double flying capacitor multicell converter; progressive double flying capacitor multicell converter

open access: yesIET Power Electronics, 2015
In this study, a novel developed structure of a converter based on double flying capacitor multi‐cell named progressive double flying capacitor multicell (PDFCM) is proposed. The main advantage of this proposed structure compared with DFCM converter is generation of more output voltage levels while having the same number of devices.

Research on voltage regulation ability of four‐level nested clamp converter based on virtual space vector modulation

open access: yesIET Power Electronics, 2023
The four‐level nested neutral point clamped (4L‐NNPC) converter is a new multi‐level converter with a simple topology, which is suitable for the medium‐voltage application. But it has voltage balancing problems under the low output frequency condition. A

Direct control strategy for a four-level three-phase flying-capacitor inverter [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
A direct predictive control strategy is proposed for a three-phase four-level flying-capacitor (FC) inverter in this paper. The balancing of the FC voltages, a challenge in applications with small capacitors and low switching frequencies, is done without

Initial Capacitor Charging in Grid-Connected Flying Capacitor Multilevel Converters

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Power Electronics, 2014
This letter reports a method for the initial charging of capacitors in grid-connected flying capacitor (FC) multilevel converters. A resistor is inserted between each phase of the FC converter and the grid. A voltage balancing algorithm is activated from the beginning of the process and the FC converter generates proper output voltages to achieve ...

Improved natural balancing with modified phase shifted PWM for single-leg five-level flying-capacitor converters [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Flying capacitor converters (FCCs), as most multilevel converter topologies, require a balancing mechanism of the capacitor voltages. FCCs have the valuable property of natural voltage balancing when a special modulation technique is used.
