Hybrid Flying Capacitor cascaded multilevel inverter

2014 International Symposium on Power Electronics, Electrical Drives, Automation and Motion, 2014
The paper presents an analysis of multilevel inverter, which comprised of cascaded 5-level Flying Capacitor (FC) cell and standard 3-level H-bridge cells. The advantages of the proposed inverter upon standard topologies are significant reduction of electrical components and as a result, lower size and weight.

Interleaved resonant converter with flying capacitor

2014 9th IEEE Conference on Industrial Electronics and Applications, 2014
This paper presents a new DC/DC converter for high input voltage and high load current applications. In order to adopt low voltage rating power devices in high voltage applications, two split capacitors with four active switches are used in the primary side to reduce the voltage stress of power switches at V in /2.

Natural capacitor voltage balancing for a flying capacitor converter induction motor drive

2008 IEEE Power Electronics Specialists Conference, 2008
This paper presents an analysis of the natural voltage balancing dynamics of a three phase flying capacitor converter when supplying an induction motor. The approach substitutes Double Fourier harmonic series for the PWM switching waveforms and the frequency response of the motor, to create a linear state space model of this type of load.

A carrier-rotation strategy for voltage balancing of flying capacitors in flying capacitor multi-level inverter

IECON'03. 29th Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society (IEEE Cat. No.03CH37468), 2004
This paper proposes a carrier-rotation (CR) PWM technique that is a new solution for the voltage unbalancing problem of flying capacitors in the flying capacitor multi-level inverter (FCMI). The proposed PWM technique equalizes the utilization of phase leg voltage redundancies corresponding to the charging and the discharging state of individual flying

Minimum flying capacitor for N-level capacitor DC/DC boost converter

2015 9th International Conference on Power Electronics and ECCE Asia (ICPE-ECCE Asia), 2015
This paper proposes a Flying Capacitor DC/DC Boost Converter (FCBC) with a small capacitance of the flying capacitor. As a result the size and weight of the proposed converter can be reduced. The capacitance of the flying capacitor is designed based on switching device voltage rating and regardless of the output voltage ripple influences. Moreover, the

A generalized capacitor voltage balancing scheme for flying capacitor multilevel converters

2010 Twenty-Fifth Annual IEEE Applied Power Electronics Conference and Exposition (APEC), 2010
Multilevel power electronic converters are the converter of choice in medium-voltage applications due to their reduced switch voltage stress, better harmonic performance, and lower switching losses. Although it has received little attention, the flying-capacitor multilevel converter has a distinct advantage in terms of its ease of capacitor voltage ...

Flying-capacitor-clamped five-level inverter based on switched-capacitor topology

2016 IEEE Energy Conversion Congress and Exposition (ECCE), 2016
This paper proposed a novel flying-capacitor-clamped five-level inverter based on bridge modular switched-capacitor topology. The inverter features the switched-capacitor circuit with step-up ability and the multilevel inverter circuit with flying-capacitor-clamped performance. With the composite structure, the number of components is cut down compared

Investigation of capacitor voltage balancing in practical implementations of flying capacitor multilevel converters

2017 IEEE 18th Workshop on Control and Modeling for Power Electronics (COMPEL), 2017
Capacitor voltage natural balancing is an attractive feature of flying capacitor multilevel (FCML) converters. However, with the commonly used phase-shifted pulse-width modulation (PSPWM), the capacitor voltages still can deviate, and active balancing is often required.
