Induction machine based flywheel energy storage system

IEEE Transactions on Aerospace and Electronic Systems, 2003
This study introduces a field oriented controlled (FOC) induction machine based flywheel energy storage (FES) system fed from a 20 kHz high frequency (HF) ac link and pulse density modulated (PDM) Converter. The feasibility of FES system is investigated both in software and hardware and is demonstrated successfully in both cases.

Flywheel energy storage system for city railway

2016 International Symposium on Power Electronics, Electrical Drives, Automation and Motion (SPEEDAM), 2016
This article makes an effort to explain practice using of stationary energy storage system based on flywheel (FESS). We are introducing two fundamental methods of utilization of the FESS for the tram transportation or trolleybus lines. The main goal of these methods is to save non-utilized energy from the DC railway and use it for covering the ...

A flywheel cell for energy storage system

2008 IEEE International Conference on Sustainable Energy Technologies, 2008
A flywheel cell intended for multi-flywheel cell based energy storage system is proposed. The flywheel can operate at very high speed in magnetic levitation under the supports of the integrated active magnetic bearing and a passive magnetic bearing set. 3D finite element analyses were applied to verify various configurations of passive magnetic bearing.

Rotor Dynamics of Flywheel Energy Storage Systems

Journal of Solar Energy Engineering, 1991
This paper deals with the dynamic analysis of the magnetic bearing stack system. The stack consists of a single flywheel supported by two magnetic bearings. To model the system, the dynamic equations of a magnetically suspended flywheel are derived. Next, the four control systems controlling the four degrees-of-freedom of the stack are incorporated ...

Concept of Cold Energy Storage for Superconducting Flywheel Energy Storage System

IEEE Transactions on Applied Superconductivity, 2011
A superconducting flywheel energy storage (SFES) system is an energy storage device with unprecedented small kinetic energy loss by utilizing diamagnetic levitation property of superconductor. The system, therefore, is expected to be one of the most promising candidates in the application of renewable energy field such as PV (photovoltaic) or wind ...

Flywheel energy storage system for voltage sag compensation

2009 International Conference on Power Electronics and Drive Systems (PEDS), 2009
This paper presents a real-time voltage sag monitoring system. Discrete wavelet transform (DWT) is implemented by using an embedded chipset in order to monitor initial and ending points of voltage sag. A flywheel energy storage system (FESS) is designed for voltage sag compensation, and proof-of-principle experiment is presented.
