Characteristics and operational control strategies of grid‐forming long‐/short‐duration energy storage systems: A review

open access: yesEnergy Conversion and Economics, Volume 7, Issue 2, Page 127-148, April 2026.
Abstract Energy storage systems (ESSs) are increasingly critical for maintaining the stability and flexibility in power systems with rising renewable penetration. Grid‐forming (GFM) ESSs have emerged as a pivotal technology, capable of providing essential voltage and frequency support by establishing grid references in converter‐dominated systems. This

Adaptive Nonlinear PID Controller for Boosted Load Frequency Management of Grids With Renewables and Energy Storage Units

open access: yesIET Generation, Transmission &Distribution, Volume 20, Issue 1, January/December 2026.
Adaptive nonlinear PID controller as a promising control scheme is introduced. Two nonlinear gains based on the configurable hyperbolic functions are used. SFS algorithm is employed to calibrate controller gains optimally. Performance gained is tested on various power grids enriched by RESs and ESUs.

Simultaneous Intermittency Filtering and Peak Shaving for PV‐Powered Grid‐Interactive EV Fast Charging

open access: yesIET Renewable Power Generation, Volume 20, Issue 1, January/December 2026.
This study proposes a photovoltaic (PV)‐powered fast‐charging station with a flywheel energy storage system to address challenges from renewable energy intermittency and grid strain. A new control strategy is developed, combining fluctuation filtering and peak shaving, to ensure stable power delivery and voltage regulation.
