Proper dimensioning of magnetic bearings for non-static gimballed FESS is currently hindered by the lack of models that can predict the maximum forces in the bearings. If FESS is to compete with conventional electro-chemical batteries in terms of energy density, the magnetic bearings must be dimensioned optimally for weight and size.
