Flywheel load equalizer

Proceedings of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, 1911
The use of flywheels to equalize the loads on steam engines, punch presses, rolling mills and other machinery of this class has been known for years but its use in connection with electrical machinery for operating hoists, steel rolls, etc., is comparatively new.

New concept flywheel-ring flywheel generator

Conference Record of the Power Conversion Conference - Yokohama 1993, 2002
A large-scale ring shaped flywheel generator which is magnetically levitated is proposed. It is applicable to a power storage system in place of the pumped storage in a hydroelectric power station. Using an experimental model, stable levitation has been realized. The magnetic pole is designed to decrease iron losses on rotation.

Massless flywheel

Assembling in Mechanical Engineering and Instrument-Making, 2022
Analytical synthesis of the artifi cial moment of inertia and establish the parameters that determine it have been carried out. The artifi cial inertia device may include an electrical capacitor and an electromechanical converter, such as a DC machine. The main advantages of an artifi cial fl ywheel over a "natural" one are incomparably lower mass and ...

JET Flywheel Generators

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part A: Power and Process Engineering, 1986
Two large vertical shaft flywheel generators each provides the JET (Joint European Torus) device with peak power up to 400 MW and energy up to 2600 MJ per pulse to induce and confine the multi-mega-ampère plasma current. The integrated rotor flywheel consists of a 650 tonne/10 m diameter rim carrying the poles of the machine.
