Multiple source frequency-modulated continuous-wave optical reflectometry: theory and experiment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We propose and demonstrate a novel approach to increase the effective bandwidth of a frequencymodulated continuous-wave (FMCW) ranging system. This is achieved by algorithmically stitching together the swept spectra of separate laser sources.

The application of frequency‐modulated continuous wave modulated thermoacoustic imaging in geological media

open access: yesGeophysical Prospecting, Volume 73, Issue 4, Page 1154-1170, May 2025.
Abstract A thermoacoustics imaging system is investigated in this paper to enhance conventional imaging modalities in geological subsurface situational awareness applications. While thermoacoustics imaging has traditionally been used in biological scenarios like breast cancer detection, this work aims to extend thermoacoustics imaging to geophysical ...

Basal Melting and Oceanic Observations Beneath Central Fimbulisen, East Antarctica

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Oceans, Volume 130, Issue 3, March 2025.
Abstract Basal melting of ice shelves is fundamental to Antarctic ice sheet mass loss, yet direct observations remain sparse. We present the first year‐round melt record (2017–2021) from a phase‐sensitive radar on Fimbulisen, one of the fastest flowing ice shelves in Dronning Maud Land, East Antarctica.

Design of Modular FMCW Radar and Quantization of Its Range Error

open access: yesSakarya University Journal of Computer and Information Sciences, 2018
This study presents experimental analysis of range error of modular FMCW (frequency modulated continuous wave) radar operating at C-band. As FMCW utilizes frequency modulation, it can measure both range and speed of targets.

Automotive radar – investigation of mutual interference mechanisms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In the past mutual interference between automotive radar sensors has not been regarded as a major problem. With an increasing number of such systems, however, this topic is receiving more and more attention.

Hand Gesture Recognition Using Frequency‐Modulated Continuous Wave Radar on Tactile Displays for the Visually Impaired

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, Volume 7, Issue 2, February 2025.
A radar‐based hand gesture recognition is proposed here to be integrated with 2D‐tactile displays. A multifeature encoder method is used to extract the range‐time‐map and velocity‐time‐map information from the radar in the form of spectrogram images.

A Time‐Interleaved Swept‐Threshold ADC With Stable Timing for IR‐UWB Medical Radars

open access: yesIET Circuits, Devices &Systems, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
This paper presents a new method for direct sampling of the backscattered signal in ultrawideband (UWB) impulse radar for vital sign detection. One of the standard methods for direct sampling in UWB radars is the time‐interleaving technique. In these converters, NOT gates (logical inverter gates) and tunable delay cells are typically used to create ...
