Basal Melting and Oceanic Observations Beneath Central Fimbulisen, East Antarctica
Abstract Basal melting of ice shelves is fundamental to Antarctic ice sheet mass loss, yet direct observations remain sparse. We present the first year‐round melt record (2017–2021) from a phase‐sensitive radar on Fimbulisen, one of the fastest flowing ice shelves in Dronning Maud Land, East Antarctica.

A low-cost through-the-wall FMCW radar for stand-off operation and activity detection [PDF]
In this paper we present a new through-wall (TW) FMCW radar system. The architecture of the radar enables both high sensitivity and range resolutions of

A radar‐based hand gesture recognition is proposed here to be integrated with 2D‐tactile displays. A multifeature encoder method is used to extract the range‐time‐map and velocity‐time‐map information from the radar in the form of spectrogram images.

A Time‐Interleaved Swept‐Threshold ADC With Stable Timing for IR‐UWB Medical Radars
This paper presents a new method for direct sampling of the backscattered signal in ultrawideband (UWB) impulse radar for vital sign detection. One of the standard methods for direct sampling in UWB radars is the time‐interleaving technique. In these converters, NOT gates (logical inverter gates) and tunable delay cells are typically used to create ...

Impact of Internal and External Interferences on the Performance of a FMCW Radar [PDF]
Although FMCW technology has become by now mature, there are still some unsolved problems left. First group of them are noise and distortion from own transmitter or receiver.

Coherent CW THz generation with a coupled‐cavity mini‐array VCSEL
A novel laser source for CW THz generation is presented here: a coupled‐cavity mini‐array vertical‐cavity surface‐emitting lasers (VCSEL). Designed with a single contact for a current in the mA range, this mini‐array VCSEL is shown to provide beat frequencies up to 300 GHz, which are converted to THz radiation in a standard homodyne THz setup. With its

A Low‐Complexity Target Detection Technique Using the Prefix Sum Algorithm
The conventional CA‐CFAR technique has a time complexity of O(n4). A novelty CA‐CFAR technique based on the prefix sum algorithm with a complexity O(n2) is proposed in this article. ABSTRACT A conventional target detection technique for FMCW millimeter‐wave radar applies a two‐dimensional (2D) cell‐averaging constant false alarm rate (CA‐CFAR) detector

Design of Dual-Mode Local Oscillators Using CMOS Technology for Motion Detection Sensors
Recently, studies have been actively carried out to implement motion detecting sensors by applying radar techniques. Doppler radar or frequency-modulated continuous wave (FMCW) radar are mainly used, but each type has drawbacks.
