Application of foam-extend on turbulent fluid-structure interaction [PDF]
Turbulent flow around flexible structures is likely to induce structural vibrations which may eventually lead to fatigue failure. In order to assess the fatigue life of these structures, it is necessary to take the action of the flow on the structure into account, but also the influence of the vibrating structure on the fluid flow.

Development of a CFD Solver for Primary Diesel Jet Atomization in FOAM-Extend [PDF]
<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">Ongoing development of a CFD framework for the simulation of primary atomization of a high pressure diesel jet is presented in this work. The numerical model is based on a second order accurate, polyhedral Finite Volume (FV) method implemented in <span class="monospace"> ...

Numerical study of rotor-stator interactions in a hydraulic turbine with Foam-extend
In the development of high head hydraulic turbines, vibrations are one of the critical problems. In Francis turbines, pressure fluctuations occur at the interface between the blades of the runner and guide vanes. This rotor-stator interaction can be responsible for fatigue failures and cracks. Although the flow inside the turbomachinery is complex, and

In this work the incompressible turbulent flow in a high head Francis turbine under steady operating conditions is investigated using the open source CFD software package FOAM-extend- 3.1. By varying computational domains (cyclic model, full model), coupling methods between stationary and rotating frames (mixing-plane, frozen-rotor) and turbulence ...

Developing an Interface Tracking Coupled Solver for Solving two Phase Flow Fields at Low Reynolds Numbers in foam-extend Platform [PDF]
In the present study, for the first time, a finite volume coupled solver is developed for the simultaneous numerical solving of two-phase incompressible fluid flow equations at low Reynolds numbers, and for solving the the interface position equation by ...

Development of automatic fringe assembly algorithm for overset meshes in Foam-Extend software [PDF]
In this thesis, overset mesh approach used in foam-extend software, newly developed fringe assembly algorithm and side launching of a ship by tipping table theory are pre- sented. Throughout the past few decades, the overset mesh approach, also known as Chimera and overlapping mesh approach, is being developed in the field of Computa- tional Fluid ...

Undrained vane shear strength of sand-foam mixtures subjected to different shear rates
The shear strength of sand-foam mixtures plays a crucial role in ensuring successful earth pressure balance (EPB) shield tunneling. Since the sand-foam mixtures are constantly sheared by the cutterhead and the screw conveyor with varied rotation speeds ...
