Efficient solution of 3D electromagnetic eddy-current problems within the finite volume framework of OpenFOAM

open access: yes, 2017
Eddy-current problems occur in a wide range of industrial and metallurgical applications where conducting material is processed inductively. Motivated by realising coupled multi-physics simulations, we present a new method for the solution of such ...

Effects of larval foam-making and prolonged terrestriality on morphology, nitrogen excretion and development to metamorphosis in a Leptodactylid frog [PDF]

open access: yesPeerJ
At ontogenetic transitions, animals often exhibit plastic variation in development, behavior and physiology in response to environmental conditions. Most terrestrial-breeding frogs have aquatic larval periods.

Performance of interFoam on the simulation of progressive waves

open access: yes, 2018
The performance of interFoam (a widely-used solver within the popular open source CFD package OpenFOAM) in simulating the propagation of a nonlinear (stream function solution) regular wave is investigated in this work, with the aim of systematically ...

Screening for balance in children and adults in a community science education setting: Normative data,  influence of age, sex, and body mass index, and feasibility.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2022
BackgroundScreening standing and walking balance is useful for people suspected of having vestibular disorders, a variety of neurologic and musculoskeletal disorders, and for screening astronauts returning after exposure to microgravity.

Characteristics of Liquid Egg White with Addition of Forest Bee Honey During Cold Storage

open access: yesTropical Animal Science Journal
Eggs were perishable foodstuffs during distribution to consumers. Hence, appropriate egg handling and preservation methods were needed and could be applied to farmers and the egg processing industry.

A unified finite volume framework for phase‐field simulations of an arbitrary number of fluid phases [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
While the phase-field methodology is widely adopted for simulating two-phase flows, the simulation of an arbitrary number (N ≥ 2) of fluid phases at physical fidelity is non-trivial and requires special attention concerning mathematical modelling ...

Effect of Foot Orthoses on Midfoot Pain and the Volume of Bone Marrow Lesions in the Midfoot: A Randomized Mechanism of Action Study

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Foot orthoses are thought to improve pain by potentially modifying internal mechanical forces. To test this, we explored whether foot orthoses can modify patterns of bone marrow lesions (BMLs) in people with midfoot pain. Methods Forty‐two people were recruited with midfoot pain, and magnetic resonance imaging–confirmed midfoot BMLs ...

Foam-driven fracture

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, 2018
Significance Hydraulic fracturing plays an important role in meeting today’s energy demands. However, the substantial use of fresh water in fracturing and wastewater returning to the surface pose risks to the environment.

Development and Preliminary In Vivo Study of 3D‐Printed Bioactive Glass Scaffolds with Trabecular Architecture

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study reports the fabrication of trabecular bioactive glass scaffolds (composition “1d”: 46.1SiO2‐28.7CaO‐8.8MgO‐6.2P2O5‐5.7CaF2‐4.5Na2O wt%) through vat photopolymerization and the relevant results from mechanical testing and in vivo implantation procedures in rabbit femora, showing great promise for bone tissue engineering applications.
