Focal mechanism solutions for Albanian earthquakes for the years 1964–1988
Tectonophysics, 1994Abstract Focal mechanism solutions for 175 Albanian earthquakes of Albania for the years 1964–1988 were obtained by using an interactive computer technique. The results obtained are elaborated upon by applying Fisherian statistical analysis to obtain parameters for the mean stress direction in five zones.

Focal Mechanism Solutions of Intraplate Earthquakes and Stresses in the Lithosphere
1974Focal mechanism solutions of 33 intraplate earthquakes are presented. These solutions, 47 additional mechanism solutions from the literature, and measurements of stress in situ indicate that the interiors of many lithospheric plates are characterized by large horizontal compressive stress. The predominance of com-pressive stress is particularly notable

A shallow-focus (3.8 km deep) and low-magnitude (M L 3.8) earthquake occurred near Sheikhupura on August 08, 2010. Shaking was felt in parts of Potwar and northern Punjab but no associated damage has been reported. Tectonically, this earthquake occurred to the south of the Salt Range in the Punjab Seismic Zone (PSZ), a shallow-focus ...

Abstract Focal-mechanism solutions of four earthquakes in the eastern Himalayas and northern Burma are determined using the first motion of compressional waves. Two possible solutions thus obtained for each event reveal steeply dipping fault with predominantly strike-slip motion.

Determination of focal mechanism solution using initial motion polarity of P and S waves
Physics of the Earth and Planetary Interiors, 2002Abstract It is important to determine accurate focal mechanism solutions for earthquakes with small magnitudes or those recorded by a small number of seismometers, perhaps with an unfavorable geographic distribution. A method using initial motion polarity of S waves, in addition to P waves, is described.

Abstract A reanalyzation of three previously published focal mechanism solutions has given the results presented in Table I. The previous solutions, which are also given in Table I, were published by Bungum and Husebye (1977) for the Jan Mayen event, and by Bungum (1977) for the Iceland and Svalbard events.

Abstract This study proposes an automatic method of determining a focal mechanism solution. This method includes picking initial motion polarities of P and S waves and judging reliability of the solution. The method of picking the polarities is as follows. Displacement waveform data are calculated only for S waves.
