Seizure ending signs in patients with dyscognitive focal seizures*
Epileptic Disorders, 2015AbstractAim. Signs indicating the end of a focal seizure with loss of awareness and/or responsiveness but without progression to focal or generalized motor symptoms are poorly defined and can be difficult to determine. Not recognizing the transition from ictal to postictal behaviour can affect seizure reporting accuracy by family members and may lead ...

THERE is in the literature a number of observations suggesting that moderate hypothermia, 34 to 25 C might have a permissive or facilitatory influence on focal electrical seizures in the neocortex of mammals. Swinyard and Toman1found that the threshold current for electroconvulsive seizures in unanesthetized rats decreased and the seizure duration ...

Disappearing CT lesions in focal seizures
Annals of Tropical Paediatrics, 1992A case of focal seizures with right hemiparesis in a 6-year-old Indian girl is presented. CT scan showed four ring-enhancing lesions in the left cortex. She was treated with phenytoin and a course of praziquantel. The hemiparesis recovered in 3 weeks and a repeat CT scan after 2 months was normal.

Pharmacotherapy for Focal Seizures in Children and Adolescents
Drugs, 2018Focal-onset seizures are among the most common forms of seizures in children and adolescents and can be caused by a wide diversity of acquired or genetic etiologies. Despite the increasing array of antiseizure drugs available, treatment of focal-onset seizures in this population remains problematic, with as many as one-third of children having seizures

Efficacy of lacosamide by focal seizure subtype
Epilepsy Research, 2014The purpose of this post hoc exploratory analysis was to determine the effects of the antiepileptic drug, lacosamide, on focal (partial-onset) seizure subtypes. Patient data from the three lacosamide pivotal trials were grouped and pooled by focal seizure subtype at Baseline: simple partial seizures (SPS), complex partial seizures (CPS), and ...

Focal Seizures and EEG: Prognostic Considerations
Clinical Electroencephalography, 2003The goal of this study was to determine whether the EEG could predict if patients with focal seizures would eventually be uncontrolled (U), more than two seizures per month, or be controlled (C), fewer than two seizures per year. Using these latter criteria, U and C patients were randomly selected from our files, 150 in each of these two groups; 804 ...

Focal epileptic seizures ipsilateral to the tumour
Acta Neurochirurgica, 1979The authors report on six cases of cerebral tumours: three astrocytomas (two temporal and one frontal), two meningiomas (one parietal and one frontal), and a metastasis with a temporal location causing sensory-motor epileptic seizures ipsilateral to the lesion.

Chemoconvulsant seizures: Advantages of focally-evoked seizure models
The Italian Journal of Neurological Sciences, 1995Studies of short and long-term changes in regional metabolism, blood flow, gene expression (including immediate early genes and genes for neurotrophic factors), sprouting and cell death following seizures are pivotal to an understanding of the neural networks responsible for the generation of seizures.

A 13-year-old right-handed boy has been healthy until 1 year ago when he developed the onset of recurrent “spells.” He comes for an evaluation with his parents who report that the spells have all looked the same when witnessed. He will initially feel a warning of a sudden “funny feeling” and have difficulty understanding what is being said.
