Analysis of focus measure operators for shape-from-focus

Pattern Recognition, 2013
Shape-from-focus (SFF) has widely been studied in computer vision as a passive depth recovery and 3D reconstruction method. One of the main stages in SFF is the computation of the focus level for every pixel of an image by means of a focus measure operator.

Fringe localization using focus measure

Optics Letters, 2011
A method for automated evaluation of fringe localization using focus measure is demonstrated experimentally. Dual-illumination digital holographic interferometry is used to generate phase difference maps (PDMs) of a rough test object. Focus measure values of the PDMs along the axial direction (increment: 10λ=6.33 μm) yield an inverted bell-shaped curve

Evaluation of focus measures in multi-focus image fusion

Pattern Recognition Letters, 2007
Several focus measures were studied in this paper as the measures of image clarity, in the field of multi-focus image fusion. All these focus measures are defined in the spatial domain and can be implemented in real-time fusion systems with fast response and robustness.

A New Adaptive Focus Measure for Shape From Focus

Procedings of the British Machine Vision Conference 2008, 2008
This paper proposes a new focus measure operator for Shape From Focus to recover a dense depth map of a scene. The method can handle depth discontinuities effectively by using adaptively shaped and weighted support windows. The support window shapes and weights are determined from the image characteristics of the all-focused image of the scene. Similar

Detection of actual focus variations by focus automatic measurement

SPIE Proceedings, 2003
We developed a new focus monitoring method that is simple yet highly accurate. We used simple measurement tools: a conventional binary mask and an optical overlay inspection machine. Our method was sufficiently precise to detect sub-100nm focus errors, and we demonstrated that it had high focus sensitivity under various illuminations (NA, σ, and ...

Multi focus image fusion using the measure of focus

Journal of Optics, 2012
Pixel level image fusion algorithms using Bayes entropy measure of focus (BH) and spatial frequency (SF) are presented and their performances are compared. Both algorithms are performed almost alike. In fact Bayes entropy measure of focus based image fusion algorithm shows slightly better performance.
