Focus of Attention in Voice Training [PDF]
The vast majority of motor learning studies investigating focus of attention have found that an external focus of attention (focusing on the effect of a movement) results in enhanced performance and learning, compared to an internal focus of attention (focusing on the body movement itself).

Gravitational Laws of Focus of Attention
IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, 2020The understanding of the mechanisms behind focus of attention in a visual scene is a problem of great interest in visual perception and computer vision. In this paper, we describe a model of scanpath as a dynamic process which can be interpreted as a variational law somehow related to mechanics, where the focus of attention is subject to a ...

Focus of Attention in Groups: A Self-Attention Perspective
The Journal of Social Psychology, 1989In three studies, we examined the hypothesis, derived from self-attention theory, that the focus of attention of individuals in groups varies as a function of group composition. In naturally occurring, nonlaboratory settings, Studies 1 and 2 demonstrated a decrease in first-person singular pronoun usage as the proportionate number of discussants in a ...

Attentional Focus of Sport Spectators
Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1998To test the hypothesis that a player possessing the ball, i.e., the actor, is the most salient component of a football scenario and that, consequently, spectators tend to focus their attention on this person, subjects were asked to view a series of short video clips depicting college football plays.

Attentional awakening, resource allocation and the focus of temporal attention
NeuroReport, 2011Attentional awakening (AA) is an impairment in the identification of target stimuli that are presented early in a rapidly presented sequence of visual stimuli. Here we investigate whether AA is related to resource allocation, measured as amplitude of the P3 event-related potential and/or variance in the focus of temporal attention, measured as P3 phase

Attention has memory: priming for the size of the attentional focus
Spatial Vision, 2009Repeating the same target's features or spatial position, as well as repeating the same context (e.g. distractor sets) in visual search leads to a decrease of reaction times. This modulation can occur on a trial by trial basis (the previous trial primes the following one), but can also occur across multiple trials (i.e. performance in the current trial

Focus-of-attention from local color symmetries
IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, 2004In this paper, a continuous valued measure for local color symmetry is introduced. The new algorithm is an extension of the successful gray value-based symmetry map proposed by Reisfeld et al. The use of color facilitates the detection of focus points (FPs) on objects that are difficult to detect using gray-value contrast only.

Influence of Attentional Focus on Reaction Time
Psychological Reports, 1985It was hypothesized that attention could be directed to the emphasized task regardless of its spatial location. 20 subjects performed a simple RT to a stimulus located in foveal vision and a simple RT to four surrounding stimuli set in the visual periphery. Importance of task was manipulated through instructions.
