Post processing of differential images for direct extrasolar planet detection from the ground [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The direct imaging from the ground of extrasolar planets has become today a major astronomical and biological focus. This kind of imaging requires simultaneously the use of a dedicated high performance Adaptive Optics [AO] system and a differential ...

Optical microscope illumination analysis using through-focus scanning optical microscopy [PDF]

open access: yesOptics Letters, 2017
Misalignment of the aperture diaphragm present in optical microscopes results in angular illumination asymmetry (ANILAS) at the sample plane. Here we show that through-focus propagation of ANILAS results in a lateral image shift with a focus position.

Takagi-Taupin Description of X-ray Dynamical Diffraction from Diffractive Optics with Large Numerical Aperture

open access: yes, 2007
We present a formalism of x-ray dynamical diffraction from volume diffractive optics with large numerical aperture and high aspect ratio, in an analogy to the Takagi-Taupin equations for strained single crystals.

Tuning of large piezoelectric response in nanosheet-buffered lead zirconate titanate films on glass substrates

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017
Renewed interest has been witnessed in utilizing the piezoelectric response of PbZr0.52Ti0.48O3 (PZT) films on glass substrates for applications such as adaptive optics.

Ray pencils of general divergency

open access: yesAfrican Vision and Eye Health, 2009
That a thin refracting element can have a dioptric power which is asymmetric immediately raises questions at the fundamentals of linear optics.  In optometry the important concept of vergence, in particular, depends on the concept of a pencil of rays ...

Extending the depth of focus of fiber-optic optical coherence tomography using a chromatic dual-focus design [PDF]

open access: yesApplied Optics, 2018
We report a dual-focus fiber-optic probe designed to extend depth of focus (DOF) in high-resolution endoscopic optical coherence tomography. We exploited the broad spectral bandwidth of a supercontinuum source and, in the fiber probe, the foci of the 750-1000 nm and 1100-1450 nm inputs were axially chromatically shifted.

Survival Outcomes and Complications Among Canadian Children With Retinoblastoma: A Population‐Based Report From CYP‐C

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Purpose Retinoblastoma (RB) is the most common pediatric ocular cancer, yet population‐based data on survival and risk factors remain limited. This study aimed to describe survival in a large national RB cohort and identify predictors of death and complications.

Probing half β_{y}^{*} optics in the Accelerator Test Facility 2

open access: yesPhysical Review Accelerators and Beams, 2016
A nanometer beam size at the interaction point (IP) is required for future linear colliders to achieve the desired rate of particle collisions. KEK Accelerator Test Facility 2 (ATF2), a scaled down implementation of the linear collider beam delivery ...
