Is it north or west foehn? A Lagrangian analysis of Penetration and Interruption of Alpine Foehn intensive observation period 1 (PIANO IOP 1) [PDF]
A case study of a foehn event in the Inn Valley near Innsbruck, Austria, that occurred on 29 October 2017 in the framework of the first intensive observation period (IOP) of the Penetration and Interruption of Alpine Foehn (PIANO) field campaign is ...

Foehn Winds at Pine Island Glacier and their role in Ice Changes
Abstract. Pine Island Glacier (PIG) has recently experienced increased ice loss mostly attributed to basal melt and ocean-ice dynamics. However, atmospheric forcing also plays a role in the ice mass budget, as besides lower-latitude warm air intrusions, the steeply sloping terrain that surrounds the glacier promotes frequent Foehn winds.

Interactions between foehn and mountain-valley cold air pools (CAPs) strongly influence severe weather and air quality at the valley bottom, but have seen limited research compared to the fully established foehn phase. The Penetration and Interruption of

Numerous studies have elucidated that white heads and chalky rice are caused by hot, dry and strong winds at night. However, these studies have only used synoptic weather charts and near‐surface observation data to confirm the role of foehn in white head

Is it foehn or sea breeze? Eulerian and Lagrangian analysis of the flow in the Jordan Valley
For more than one century, the penetration of the Mediterranean Sea Breeze into the Jordan Valley has been studied. At times, the associated downslope westerlies in the Dead Sea area exhibit foehn characteristics, leading to a warming and drying upon ...

The Winds of Change: Foehn Drive Intense Melt
Atmospheric rivers on the northwestern Greenland Ice Sheet are driving dry winds across northeastern Greenland, forcing extreme short-term melt.

Characteristics and evolution of diurnal foehn events in the Dead Sea valley [PDF]
This paper investigates frequently occurring foehn in the Dead Sea valley. For the first time, sophisticated, high-resolution measurements were performed to investigate the horizontal and vertical flow field.
