Atmospheric Science Letters, Volume 27, Issue 4, April 2026.Cold waves in northern Europe and the Alps have severe impacts on daily life sectors. Our study shows that they have become less frequent, shorter, and milder over the past eight decades despite ongoing regional variability. In addition, cold waves are sensitive to the large‐scale circulation.
