An Example of a Non-smooth Fold Bifurcation

The author investigates a simple bifurcation found in the motion of a stick-slip oscillator, which represents a non-smooth dynamical system. By analogy with the fold bifurcation in smooth systems, the author shows that for the investigated bifurcation a positive Floquet multiplier passes through the unit circle.

Discontinuous Fold Bifurcations

This article treats discontinuous fold bifurcations of periodic solutions of discontinuous system. It is shown how jumps in the fundamental solution matrix lead to jumps of the Floquet multipliers of periodic solutions. A Floquet multiplier of a discontinuous system can jump through the unit circle causing a discontinuous bifurcation.
