Trait coordination reveals the fast–slow plant economics spectrum along the vertical canopy profile in central Amazonian forests

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 39, Issue 12, Page 3596-3610, December 2025.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Understanding how environmental drivers affect tree functioning is essential to improve predictions of tropical forests' response to climate change. While functional traits directly influence tree performance, our understanding of how canopy environments shape their ...

Geoarchaeological Perspectives on Stelae Production Throughout the Bronze Age: Provenance, Material Properties and Rock Selection at Zebros (Idanha‐a‐Nova, Portugal)

open access: yesGeoarchaeology, Volume 40, Issue 6, November/December 2025.
ABSTRACT At Monte dos Zebros (Idanha‐a‐Nova, Central Portugal), the discovery of three stelae—two Iberian Late Bronze Age stelae and one fragment of an Early/Middle Bronze Age anthropomorphic stela—represents a rare case of rock art monuments from different chronologies coexisting in the same place within a broader archaeological landscape, which ...

Effects of Long‐Term Nutrient Addition on Leaf Metabolites, Herbivory, and Mycorrhizal Spores Associated With a Savannah Woody Species

open access: yesAustral Ecology, Volume 50, Issue 11, November 2025.
ABSTRACT Given the importance of soil conditions for ecosystem functioning, fertilisation experiments are a valuable tool for assessing how systems respond to changes in soil properties. However, the effects of changes in nutrient availability on multitrophic interactions in savannah ecosystems of the Brazilian Cerrado are still scarce. We investigated

Functional Diversity of Neotropical Aquatic Hyphomycetes: Insights Into Environmental Drivers

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 57, Issue 6, November 2025.
Subtropical streams host diverse hyphomycete assemblages than tropical one's. Larger saprotrophs with diverse conidia shapes dominate in subtropical areas. Cold and oxygenated waters have a positive effect on functional diversity. Poor litter in tropical favored the dominance of wood saprotrophs and endophytes.
