Contributions to the Foliicolous Lichens Flora of South Korea [PDF]

open access: yesMycobiology, 2013
South Korea is covered primarily by temperate vegetation; therefore, foliicolous lichens may not be expected to play an important role in its lichen flora. However, this study describes four foliicolous lichen species, Strigula concreta, S. macrocarpa, S. melanobapha, and S. subelegans, which are new to South Korea.

Uncovering Hidden Lineages in Korean Foliicolous Lichens (Strigulaceae, Strigulales): Discovery of a New Cryptic Genus and Species [PDF]

open access: yesMycobiology
Foliicolous or leaf-dwelling lichens are mostly found in (sub-)tropical rainforests; due to their sensibility to environmental changes, they may serve as biological indicators for rainforest ecosystems.

Distribution and Genetic Diversity of the Korean Foliicolous Lichen, Strigula depressa [PDF]

open access: yesMycobiology
Foliicolous lichens, such as Strigula depressa, are increasingly recognized as potential indicators of subtropical ecosystem dynamics due to their sensitivity to climatic conditions, with climate change likely to expand their distribution in the South ...

More than you can see: Unraveling the ecology and biodiversity of lichenized fungi associated with leaves and needles of 12 temperate tree species using high-throughput sequencing [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2022
Currently, lichen surveys are generally based on the examination of fruiting bodies. Lichens in the mycelial stage, in spores, or awaiting conditions for fruiting body formation are usually overlooked, even though they are important for maintaining ...

Twelve New Species Reveal Cryptic Diversification in Foliicolous Lichens of Strigula s.lat. (Strigulales, Ascomycota) [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Fungi, 2021
We employed a molecular phylogenetic approach using five markers (ITS, nuSSU, nuLSU, TEF1-α, and RPB2) to assess potential cryptic speciation in foliicolous members of Strigula s.lat.

Jejulea byssolomoides gen. et sp. nov., a Remarkable Pilocarpaceae (Lichen-Forming Ascomycetes) from Jeju Island, South Korea [PDF]

open access: yesMycobiology, 2022
The new genus and species, Jejulea byssolomoides, is described from Jeju Island, Korea. This lichen is characterized by saxicolous, crustose, pale greenish-gray, partly finely filamentous, matt, smooth thallus, prominent convex brown to dark brown ...

A new genus and species of foliicolous lichen in a new family of Strigulales (Ascomycota: Dothideomycetes) reveals remarkable class-level homoplasy [PDF]

open access: yesIMA Fungus, 2020
Phylogenetic analysis of some foliicolous lichens collected in Hainan Province, China, revealed a new lineage morphologically similar to Porina but phylogenetically related to Strigulaceae (Dothideomycetes), differing from the latter in ascus type.

Foliicolous lichens: ecological and chorological data* [PDF]

open access: yesBotanical Journal of the Linnean Society, 1989
SERUSIAUX, E., 1989. Foliicolous lichens: ecological and chorological data. Foliicolous lichens are present throughout tropical and subtropical forests but are particularly common in undisturbed rain forests at low elevations. Their presence in south-west Europe and in the Caucasus with 23 species is considered to be a relic of Tertiary times ...

Distribution of Foliicolous Lichen Strigula and Genetic Structure of S. multiformis on Jeju Island, South Korea [PDF]

open access: yesMicroorganisms, 2019
Strigula is a pantropic foliicolous lichen living on the leaf surfaces of evergreen broadleaf plants. In South Korea, Strigula is the only genus of foliicolous lichen recorded from Jeju Island. Several Strigula species have been recorded, but the ecology
