A flock of 188 sheep was surveyed for cutaneous lesions that were noticed 3 days after shearing. On the basis of histologic features of the cyst wall, ie, association with sebaceous glands and lack of follicular structures or rete pegs, the cysts were classified as follicular cysts.

ABSTRACT: Pigmented follicular cysts are newly described cutaneous cysts with characteristic histology. They are usually single pigmented lesions occurring in men between 20 and 63 years of age that often are mistaken for nevi. The eighth case of this newly described cyst is presented; a brief review of epithelial cysts and how they differ from ...

Currently it is well established that each of the three parts of the hair follicle (infundibulum, isthmus, and the inferior portion) originates different types of cutaneous cysts. Thus, follicular cysts include infundibular, trichilemmal, and matricial cysts. Brownstein in 1983 described a mixed type of cutaneous cyst combining epidermoid, infundibular,

Experimental extra‐follicular histogenesis of follicular cysts
Journal of Oral Pathology & Medicine, 1987An animal model has been developed in which implantation cysts have been produced very close to developing teeth within the jaws of Vervet monkeys. Various deciduous teeth were extracted from both the maxilla and the mandible of 6 young Vervel monkeys.

Five examples of follicular cysts with papillary projections protruding into the lumen are given. In all cases, the lining was epidermoid. The cystic cavity contained compact, eosinophilic keratinous material. Groups of vacuolated keratinocytes with overlying tiers of parakeratotic cells were seen on the top of the crests.

Ameloblastoma potential of follicular cysts
Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, 1965Abstract One hundred eight cases of ameloblastoma definitely associated with follicular cysts and/or impacted tooth follicles were compiled from a review of the literature and a study of unpublished cases. A marked reduction in the prevalence of such cases occurred after the age of 30. The evidence presented supports the hypothesis that the potential

A lateral periodontal cyst in association with a follicular cyst
British Dental Journal, 1989A case is described in which two separate developmental odontogenic cysts were associated with an unerupted lower third molar tooth. Radiological and histological examination showed that these were a lateral periodontal cyst and a follicular (dentigerous) cyst.
