Blade shapes (leading‐edge geometry and thickness) in rotodynamic blood pumps were systematically evaluated. Thinner blades improve pump efficiency by reducing blockage effects, while neither blade thickness nor leading‐edge geometry shows clear hemocompatibility benefits. Overall, blade shape has a limited impact on hemocompatibility, indicating it is

Fontan’s operation: An expanded horizon
The Fontan principle of redirecting systemic venous blood into the pulmonary arteries via a conduit has now gained a much wider application than initially intended. We have applied this type of operation in a series of 15 patients, five of whom had "classical" tricuspid atresia with concordant arterial connections.

Prophylactic anticoagulation following the Fontan operation [PDF]
Is it possible to advise either for or against prophylactic anticoagulation in patients following Fontan surgery? The Fontan procedure was first successfully performed in 1971 in a patient with tricuspid atresia,1 and has become the preferred approach for surgical palliation in patients in whom a biventricular circulation is not possible.

A Simple Predictive Factor for Mortality in Fontan Surgery: Serum Hypo-Osmolality [PDF]
Objective: Close follow-up is important after the Fontan procedure, which is a palliative surgical method for a single ventricle. In this period, serum osmolality is an important parameter with the advantages of easy to obtain and poor outcome prediction.

Noisy Politics, Quiet Technocrats: Strategic Silence by Central Banks
ABSTRACT In contrast to the “quiet” politics of the pre‐2008 period, macroeconomic policy has become “noisy”. This break raises a question: How do independent agencies designed for quiet politics react when a contentious public turns the volume up on them?
