Mechanisms of IgE‐mediated food allergy and the role of allergen‐specific B cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Food allergy arises when allergen‐specific B cells preferentially produce immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies against harmless foods. This article explains the mechanisms driving IgE‐mediated reactions, highlights the central role of these B cells, and discusses how natural tolerance (NT) and oral immunotherapy (OIT) can reshape allergic immune responses.

Food Cravings, Appetite, and Snack-Food Consumption in Response to a Psychomotor Stimulant Drug: The Moderating Effect of ‘Food Addiction’

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2014
There is mounting evidence that many highly processed foods have addictive properties, and that some cases of compulsive overeating are behavioral addictions.

A specific prelimbic-nucleus accumbens pathway controls resilience versus vulnerability to food addiction

open access: yesNature Communications, 2020
Food addiction is linked to obesity and eating disorders. In a mouse model of food addiction, the authors show that a medial prefrontal cortex-nucleus accumbens pathway is involved in vulnerability and resilience against the development of food addiction-

Role of CB2 cannabinoid receptor in the development of food addiction in male mice

open access: yesNeurobiology of Disease, 2023
The endocannabinoid system plays an important role in multiple behavioral responses due to its wide distribution in the central nervous system. The cannabinoid CB1 receptor was associated to the loss of behavioral control over food intake occurring ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Food Addiction: Current Understanding and Implications for Regulation and Research [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The idea that some processed foods can be addictive has gained support in recent years. Animal and human studies show extensive overlap between the neuronal signaling involved in palatable food consumption and drug addiction.

Incentive learning underlying cocaine relapse requires mGluR5 receptors located on dopamine D1 receptor-expressing neurons [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Understanding the psychobiological basis of relapse remains a challenge in developing therapies for drug addiction. Relapse in cocaine addiction often occurs following exposure to environmental stimuli previously associated with drug taking.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

The Food Addiction Clinical Treatment (FACT) Manual: A Harm Reduction Treatment Approach

open access: yesBehavioral Sciences
While the construct of food addiction has been controversial, there is growing evidence that certain foods can activate biobehavioral and neurological mechanisms consistent with addiction to other substances.

"Food addiction" in patients with eating disorders is associated with negative urgency and difficulties to focus on long-term goals

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2016
Objectives: The present study aimed to investigate if eating disorder patients differ in specific personality traits depending on a positive screening of food addiction and to find a model to predict food addiction in eating disorder patients using ...
