Review of patient-reported outcomes in multiple myeloma registrational trials: highlighting areas for improvement

open access: yesBlood Cancer Journal, 2021
Over the past 13 years, there have been advances in characterizing the patient experience in oncology trials, primarily using patient-reported outcomes (PROs). This review aims to provide details on the PRO measures and analyses used in multiple myeloma (

B cell mechanobiology in health and disease: emerging techniques and insights into therapeutic responses

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
B cells sense external mechanical forces and convert them into biochemical signals through mechanotransduction. Understanding how malignant B cells respond to physical stimuli represents a groundbreaking area of research. This review examines the key mechano‐related molecules and pathways in B lymphocytes, highlights the most relevant techniques to ...

Investigation of thrombin concentration at the time of clot formation in simultaneous thrombin and fibrin generation assays

open access: yesScientific Reports
Thrombin generation (TG) and fibrin clot formation represent the central process of blood coagulation. Up to 95% of thrombin is considered to be generated after the clot is formed. However, this was not investigated in depth.

A coiled‐coil domain triggers oligomerization of MmpL10, the mycobacterial transporter of trehalose polyphleate precursor

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Most MmpLs transport lipids and glycolipids of the complex mycomembrane of mycobacteria. This study shows that MmpL10 from Mycobacterium smegmatis, the transporter of the trehalose polyphosphate precursor, harbors a coiled‐coil‐like extension. Biochemical and electron microscopy studies demonstrate that the coiled‐coil enables MmpL10 to trimerize.

Predicting drug recalls from Internet search engine queries [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Batches of pharmaceutical are sometimes recalled from the market when a safety issue or a defect is detected in specific production runs of a drug. Such problems are usually detected when patients or healthcare providers report abnormalities to medical authorities.

Machine learning analysis of cocaine addiction informed by DAT, SERT, and NET-based interactome networks [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Cocaine addiction is a psychosocial disorder induced by the chronic use of cocaine and causes a large of number deaths around the world. Despite many decades' effort, no drugs have been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of cocaine dependence. Cocaine dependence is neurological and involves many interacting proteins in

Surfaceome: a new era in the discovery of immune evasion mechanisms of circulating tumor cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In the era of immunotherapies, many patients either do not respond or eventually develop resistance. We propose to pave the way for proteomic analysis of surface‐expressed proteins called surfaceome, of circulating tumor cells. This approach seeks to identify immune evasion mechanisms and discover potential therapeutic targets. Circulating tumor cells (

Study of serious adverse drug reactions using FDA-approved drug labeling and MedDRA

open access: yesBMC Bioinformatics, 2019
Background Adverse Drug Reactions (ADRs) are of great public health concern. FDA-approved drug labeling summarizes ADRs of a drug product mainly in three sections, i.e., Boxed Warning (BW), Warnings and Precautions (WP), and Adverse Reactions (AR), where

Predicting potential adverse events using safety data from marketed drugs

open access: yesBMC Bioinformatics, 2020
Background While clinical trials are considered the gold standard for detecting adverse events, often these trials are not sufficiently powered to detect difficult to observe adverse events.
