Uncertainties and Controversies in the Management of Ischemic Stroke and Transient Ischemic Attack Patients With Patent Foramen Ovale

Stroke, 2021
: Multiple randomized clinical trials have demonstrated the benefit of patent foramen ovale closure over medical therapy alone for patients who have had a stroke that has been attributed to the patent foramen ovale.

THE ENLARGED FORAMEN OVALE

American Journal of Roentgenology, 1973
Well-defined smooth margins of an enlarged foramen ovale have been characteristically associated with fifth nerve neurinomas. We have shown similar changes in other entities such as chordoma, cylindroma, meningioma and nasopharyngeal carcinoma. The changes which suggest specific roentgenologic findings are discussed.

Embolic Stroke of Undetermined Source and Patent Foramen Ovale

Stroke, 2021
Supplemental Digital Content is available in the text. Background and Purpose: The Risk of Paradoxical Embolism (RoPE) score stratifies patients with stroke according to the probability of having a patent foramen ovale (PFO), which (through Bayes theorem

Accessory oval foramen

Annals of Anatomy - Anatomischer Anzeiger, 2001
We describe an opening with smooth walls in front and medial to foramen ovale which leads to an oblique canal directed towards the fossa pterygoidea. The canal was up to 2.3 mm long and opened near the root of the pterygoid process. We called this opening "foramen ovale accessorium", and found it in 48 of 124 anatomical specimens.

Patent Foramen Ovale

Cardiology Clinics, 2013
Patent foramen ovale (PFO) is a common developmental anomaly that allows for the passage of blood and other substances from the venous to the arterial circulation. The study of PFO closure has been challenging due to widely available off-label closures performed outside the clinical trial setting.

Patent foramen ovale and migraine

Catheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions, 2006
AbstractMigraine is a common neurological disorder with a great impact on the quality of life and social activities. The patent foramen ovale (PFO) is an intra‐atrial right‐to‐left shunt with a prevalence of 25% in the general population. An increased prevalence is found in patients with migraine, especially in migraine with aura.

Comprehensive anatomy of the foramen ovale critical to percutaneous stereotactic radiofrequency rhizotomy: cadaveric study of dry skulls.

Journal of Neurosurgery, 2020
OBJECTIVEPercutaneous stereotactic radiofrequency rhizotomy (PSR) is often used to treat trigeminal neuralgia, a serious condition that results in lancinating, episodic facial pain. Thorough understanding of the microsurgical anatomy of the foramen ovale

Patent foramen ovale and atrial septal defect

Echocardiography, 2020

Transcranial Doppler as a Screening Tool for High‐Risk Patent Foramen Ovale in Cryptogenic Stroke

Journal of Neuroimaging, 2020
The identification of high‐risk patent foramen ovale (PFO) is important for selecting suitable patients for PFO closure to prevent recurrent stroke in those with cryptogenic stroke. We aimed to evaluate the predictability of transcranial Doppler (TCD) in
