Drift and Forbush decreases [PDF]

open access: yes
Evidence is presented that the drift effect on the modulation of galactic cosmic rays can be seen on Forbush decreases observed by the Deep River and Hermanus neutron ...

Loss Cone Precursors to Forbush Decreases and Advance Warning of Space Weather Effects

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2003
Ground-based observations of cosmic rays by neutron monitors and muon detectors have found precursor anisotropies before the arrival of an interplanetary shock and subsequent Forbush decrease, possibly providing advance warning of space weather effects on shock impact at the Earth's magnetosphere.

Interplanetary flow systems associated with cosmic ray modulation in 1977 - 1980 [PDF]

open access: yes
The hydromagnetic flow configurations associated with cosmic ray modulation in 1977 to 1980 were determined using solar wind plasma and magnetic field data from Voyagers 1 and 2 and Helios 1. The modulation was related to two types of large scale systems

Effects of the May 10, 2024 solar storm on the South Atlantic Anomaly: a case study in Bolivia

open access: yesEarth, Planets and Space
We analyzed the strongest geomagnetic storm of the last two decades, which occurred on May 10, 2024, focusing on satellite plasma data, magnetic field variations recorded at the Villa Remedios Magnetic Observatory, and neutron data from the 12-NM64 ...

Interplanetary magnetic fields, their fluctuations, and cosmic ray variations [PDF]

open access: yes
The cause of Forbush decreases is examined using neutron monitor data and measurements of the interplanetary magnetic field. It is found that for the period examined (Dec.

Initiation of non-tropical thunderstorms by solar activity [PDF]

open access: yes
Correlative evidence accumulating since 1926 suggests that there must be some physical coupling mechanism between solar activity and thunderstorm occurrence in middle to high latitudes.

The theoretical and experimental investigation of cosmic ray Forbush-effects [PDF]

open access: yes
The theoretical results of analysis of the expected spatial distributions of density, gradients and anisotropy of cosmic rays, obtained on the basis of the numerical solution of anisotropic diffusion equation in the presence of the disturbances of shock ...

The effects of Forbush decreases on Antarctic climate variability: a re-assessment

open access: yes, 2009
Abstract. In an attempt to test the validity of a relationship between Galactic cosmic rays (GCRs) and cloud cover, a range of past studies have performed composite analysis based around Forbush decrease (FD) events. These studies have produced a range of conflicting results, consequently reducing confidence in the existence of a GCR-cloud link.
