Dynamic force-penetration curves in rock by matching theoretical to experimental wave propagation response

Experimental Mechanics, 2004
A methodology to obtain the dynamic force-penetration curve of a rock specimen is presented. For this, a simple portable experimental setup is used. On one end, a hand-held hammer strikes a slender chisel. On the other end the chisel is in contact with the rock specimen into which the generated stress wave propagates.

Effect of the granular material on the maximum holding force of a granular gripper

Granular Matter, 2020
A granular gripper is a device used to hold objects by taking advantage of the phenomenon of Reynold’s dilatancy. A membrane containing a granular sample is allowed to deform around the object to be held and then vacuum is used to jam the granular ...

Imaging sub-surface defects in power electronic modules using shear-force microscopy

Electronic Components and Technology Conference, 2020
Recent advances in non-destructive evaluation (NDE) techniques have enhanced our understanding of failure mechanisms in power electronic systems. In this proceedings article, we demonstrate shear-force microscopy as a technique to map subsurface voids in

Effectiveness of using liquid nitrogen cryogen in grinding to enhance the grinding performance of hard steel

Proceedings of the Institution of mechanical engineers. Part B, journal of engineering manufacture, 2023
Grinding generates a lot of heat in the grinding zone area during operation. Therefore, it is important to keep the temperature under control by using various cutting fluids to get a good ground surface quality.

Effect of interfacial friction and fold penetration on the progressive collapse of foam-filled frustum using kinematically admissible model

International Journal of Crashworthiness, 2018
In this article, we extend our earlier analytical efforts of the progressive collapse of foam-filled conical frustum with the aid of a kinematically admissible folding mechanism.
