Mechanical Novel: Crowdsourcing Complex Work through Reflection and Revision [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Crowdsourcing systems accomplish large tasks with scale and speed by breaking work down into independent parts. However, many types of complex creative work, such as fiction writing, have remained out of reach for crowds because work is tightly interdependent: changing one part of a story may trigger changes to the overall plot and vice versa.

Distribution, morphology and structure of sea ice pressure ridges in the Baltic Sea

open access: yesFennia: International Journal of Geography, 1997
The first ridges in winter were observed to build in the northeastern part of the Bothnian Bay in November. The probability of occurrence of ridges was the highest in March which varied yearly up to 90-100% in the Bothnian Bay and around 10-20% in the ...

Speculative Physics: the Ontology of Theory and Experiment in High Energy Particle Physics and Science Fiction [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2014
The dissertation brings together approaches across the fields of physics, critical theory, literary studies, philosophy of physics, sociology of science, and history of science to synthesize a hybrid approach for instigating more rigorous and intense cross-disciplinary interrogations between the sciences and the humanities.

The Clustering of Author's Texts of English Fiction in the Vector Space of Semantic Fields [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2012
The clustering of text documents in the vector space of semantic fields and in the semantic space with orthogonal basis has been analysed. It is shown that using the vector space model with the basis of semantic fields is effective in the cluster analysis algorithms of author's texts in English fiction.

Handbook of Research on Human-Computer Interfaces, Developments, and Applications

open access: yes, 2016
Human Computer Interaction (HCI) is easy to define yet difficult to predict. Encompassing the management, study, planning, and design of the ways in which users interact with computers, this field has evolved from using punch cards to force touch in a ...

Classification Analysis Of Authorship Fiction Texts in The Space Of Semantic Fields [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2012
The use of naive Bayesian classifier (NB) and the classifier by the k nearest neighbors (kNN) in classification semantic analysis of authors' texts of English fiction has been analysed. The authors' works are considered in the vector space the basis of which is formed by the frequency characteristics of semantic fields of nouns and verbs.

fiction: An Open Source Framework for the Design of Field-coupled Nanocomputing Circuits [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
As a class of emerging post-CMOS technologies, Field-coupled Nanocomputing (FCN) devices promise computation with tremendously low energy dissipation. Even though ground breaking advances in several physical implementations like Quantum-dot Cellular Automata (QCA) or Nanomagnet Logic (NML) have been made in the last couple of years, design automation ...

Latent Structures of Intertextuality in French Fiction [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Intertextuality is a key concept in literary theory that challenges traditional notions of text, signification or authorship. It views texts as part of a vast intertextual network that is constantly evolving and being reconfigured. This paper argues that the field of computational literary studies is the ideal place to conduct a study of ...

"Science in Tales": Analysis of the images of scientist in young people's fictional literature [PDF]

open access: yesCiencia Ergo Sum, Vol. 19, Num. 3, 261-270 (november 2012-february 2013), 2013
In the research field on the "images of scientists" that appear in fictional literature, we focus on a set of tales produced by students of secondary school. Our aim is to connect some traits of the stereotypical scientist that appear in those texts with the traits underlying other cultural productions, since those productions may constitute the ...

Localized performance of riblets with curved cross-sectional profiles in boundary layers past finite length bodies [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Riblets are a well-known passive drag reduction technique with the potential for as much as 9% reduction in the frictional drag force in laboratory settings, and proven benefits for large scale aircraft. However, less information is available on the applicability of these textures for smaller air/waterborne vehicles where assumptions such as ...
