Correlations for Forced Convection in Ducts

1988
A large number of experimental and analytical correlations are available for heat transfer coefficient and flow friction factor for laminar and turbulent flow through channels. In this article, a comprehensive review is made of the available correlations for the laminar and turbulent flow of single-phase Newtonian fluid through circular and noncircular

Strong resonance in forced oscillatory convection

Physical Review A, 1987
We report results of an experimental study of the flow regimes observed when time-periodic convection is forced with an external frequency. The physical system is a layer of mercury heated from below. When the temperature difference across the layer exceeds a critical value ΔT ο, the oscillatory instability of convection rolls leads to a time-periodic ...

Forced Convection Heat Transfer

2015
Convection is the term used for heat transfer mechanism, which takes place in a fluid because of a combination of conduction due to the molecular interactions and energy transport due to the macroscopic (bulk) motion of the fluid itself. In the above definition, the motion of the fluid is essential otherwise, the heat transfer mechanism becomes a ...

Forced convection in a rapidly rotating annulus

Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 1982
The source-sink flow within a rapidly rotating annular region, bounded by a pair of concentric circular cylinders and by horizontal end plates, is considered. Fluid is injected into the container at arbitrary locations on the inner radius and withdrawn at one or more locations on either the inner or outer radius, through axisymmetric slots.

Forced convection adsorption cycles

Applied Thermal Engineering, 1998
Abstract The convective thermal wave is part of a patented cycle which uses heat transfer intensification to achieve both high efficiency and small size from a solid adsorption cycle. Such cycles normally suffer from low power density because of poor heat transfer through the adsorbent bed.

Heat Transfer by Forced Convection

Proceedings of the Physical Society, 1959
Heat transfer between a solid (metal sphere) and a fluid in forced convection at higher Reynolds numbers was studied. The relation between heat transfer, friction-drag force, and drag coefficient was established and the values of drag coefficient are exhibited for different Reynolds numbers.

Thermal Turbulence in Forced Convection

The Physics of Fluids, 1967
The role of the Peclét number in forced convection in a fluid layer randomly heated from below is studied experimentally and numerically. The main features of thermal turbulence, especially the intermittency arising from irregular growth of buoyant plumes, are well reproduced numerically.
