Assessment of a Baited Remote Underwater Video Method to Evaluate American Lobster (Homarus americanus) Response to Baits in Nature

open access: yesFisheries Management and Ecology, Volume 33, Issue 2, Page 339-354, April 2026.
ABSTRACT The American Lobster (Homarus americanus) is the target of an extensive fishery in the Northwest Atlantic, yet there is no systematic method for evaluating relative performance of baits for the fishery. We used Baited Remote Underwater Video (BRUV) to assess lobster attraction to commercial baits versus natural prey.

Forced-Molting Using Alternative Feeds to Improve the Welfare of Laying Hens

open access: yesBoletim de Indústria Animal, 2022
Commercial laying hens are kept in production until approximately 80 weeks of life, when the first production cycle usually ends, after which they are often discarded due to the decrease in the number of eggs produced and shell quality. However, in situations of high demand for eggs in the market, high feed prices and delays in the supply of one-day ...

Challenges in population monitoring: Bar‐tailed Godwits (Limosa lapponica) on the East Atlantic Flyway defy assumed population structure

open access: yesIbis, Volume 168, Issue 2, Page 824-832, April 2026.
Estimating and monitoring migratory bird populations involves significant challenges, even in the most well‐studied and easily‐counted species, and can be further complicated by long‐held but unverified assumptions and by shifting distributions in changing flyway conditions.

Storm events will simultaneously reduce foraging opportunities and affect movements of Red Knots (Calidris canutus) in the intertidal Wadden Sea

open access: yesIbis, Volume 168, Issue 2, Page 633-648, April 2026.
Intertidal systems provide important wintering areas for migratory shorebirds, where they can both forage and roost. In the light of climate change, extreme wind speeds are predicted to occur more frequently in northwestern Europe and pose a threat to shorebirds.

Effects of Forced Molt Period on Postmolt Performance of Leghorn Hens

open access: yesPoultry Science, 1982
Abstract Sixty-four-week-old Single Comb White Leghorn (SCWL) hens were subjected to the following treatments: 1) no forced molt (control); 2) forced molt for 4 weeks (FM4); 3) forced molt for 6 weeks (FM6): and 4) forced molt for 8 weeks (FM8). Molt was induced by restricting feed, water, and photoperiod.
