Pharmacological Manipulation of DNA Methylation in Adult Female Rats Normalizes Behavioral Consequences of Early-Life Maltreatment

open access: yesFrontiers in Behavioral Neuroscience, 2018
Exposure to adversity early in development alters brain and behavioral trajectories. Data continue to accumulate that epigenetic mechanisms are a mediating factor between early-life adversity and adult behavioral phenotypes.

Using the rat forced swim test to assess antidepressant-like activity in rodents

open access: yes, 2012
The forced swim test (FST) is one of the most commonly used animal models for assessing antidepressant-like behavior. This protocol details using the FST in rats, which takes place over 48 h and is followed by the video analysis of the behavior. The swim

Multimode Oxide‐Based Optoelectronic Memtransistor for In‐Sensor Vision Processing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A multimode optoelectronic memtransistor (OEMT) is demonstrated for vision explainable artificial intelligence (VXAI) hardware. By integrating optical sensing, electrical masking, and non‐volatile memory, the device enables key operations required for generating saliency information.

Memristive‐Gated RC‐Delay Synaptic Transistors for Time‐Encoded Analog in‐Memory Computing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A Memristive‐Gated Transistor for Time‐Encoded Analog In‐Memory Computing — By exploiting the RC delay of a self‐rectifying interface‐type memristor, nonlinear I–V distortion is structurally bypassed, enabling 3‐bit nonvolatile memory, spike‐timing‐based analog encoding, and hardware‐calibrated reservoir‐computing validation within a unified device ...

Anxiolytic and antidepressive effects of magnesium in rats and their effect on general behavioural parameters [PDF]

open access: yesVeterinarski Glasnik, 2011
Magnesium (Mg) is an essential element that catalyses more than 300 enzyme systems. Its effects on the central nervous system are exhibited through the blocking of activity of N-methyl D-aspartat (NMDA) receptors and potentiating of GABA-ergic ...

Long photoperiod exposure decreased active behaviors in the forced swim test.

open access: yes, 2017
Histograms showing the average (mean ± SEM) percent of time that each group spent swimming, climbing, or immobile during a 5 minute forced swim test, which was administered after a 2 week exposure to either NPP or a LPP cycle.

2D Skeletal Muscle Thin Film Actuators Enhance Efficiency of Biohybrid Robots

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
2D skeletal muscle thin film actuators generate millinewton‐scale forces and millimeter‐scale strokes while remaining functional for over 30 days. Their force density is 20‐fold higher than 3D skeletal muscle actuators, enabling multi‐fin robots with tunable speed and multidirectional steering.

Coping with the Forced Swim Stressor: Towards Understanding an Adaptive Mechanism

open access: yesNeural Plasticity, 2016
In the forced swim test (FST) rodents progressively show increased episodes of immobility if immersed in a beaker with water from where escape is not possible.

Biodegradable 3D‐Printable and Coatable Antifouling Composites for Marine Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Marine biofouling damages submerged surfaces and raises greenhouse gas emissions. Biodegradable antifouling biocomposites were developed by hot‐mixing beeswax, Tween 80, and calcium stearate or stearic acid. Adjusting the component ratio enables processing via hot‐pressing, 3D‐printing, or dip‐coating.
