Mechanical force redistribution floor tiles

CHI '14 Extended Abstracts on Human Factors in Computing Systems, 2014
We present Mechanical Force Redistribution (MFR) Floor Tiles: a method of sensing which creates a seamless, anti-aliased image of forces applied to a floor. This technique mechanically focuses the force from a surface onto adjacent discrete forcels (force sensing cells) by way of protrusions (small bumps or pegs), allowing for high-accuracy ...

Complexity function and forcing in the 2D quasi-periodic Rauzy tiling

Crystallography Reports, 2007
The quantitative characteristics of the long-range translational order in the 2D quasi-periodic Rauzy tiling (complexity function and forcing depth) have been investigated. It is proved that the complexity function c(n) is equal to the number of figures in the n-corona grown from a seed composed of three figures of different types.

The interaction of the two principal wind forces on roof tiles

Journal of Wind Engineering and Industrial Aerodynamics, 1981
Abstract Wind forces on roof tiles laid over a low-permeability underlay can be separated into two principal mechanisms. The forces due to the airflow over the steps formed by the tile courses, referred to as the surface flow force, have been used as the basis for the British Standard Code of Practice BS5534 Part 1.

Variance analysis of edge grinding forces of ceramic tile with diamond cup wheels

International Technology and Innovation Conference 2006 (ITIC 2006), 2006
Diamond cup wheel is an important tool for machining of decorative material ceramic tile. The grinding force varies with different grinding parameters and the compositions of diamond cup wheel are important factors to effective grinding of ceramic tiles.

Modified Body Force Model for Air Flow Through Perforated Floor Tiles in Data Centers

Journal of Electronic Packaging, 2016
Generally, porous jump (PJ) model is used for rapid air flow simulations (without resolving the tile pore structure) through perforated floor tiles in data centers. The PJ model only specifies a step pressure loss across the tile surface, without any influence on the flow field.

Space-tiled colloidal crystals from DNA-forced shape-complementary polyhedra pairing

Science
Generating space-filling arrangements of most discrete polyhedra nanostructures of the same shape is not possible. However, if the appropriate individual building blocks are selected (e.g., cubes), or multiple shapes of the appropriate dimensions are matched (e.g., octahedra and tetrahedra) and their pairing interactions are subsequently forced, space ...

Evaluation of modified body force (MBF) model for rapid air flow modeling through perforated tiles

2015 31st Thermal Measurement, Modeling & Management Symposium (SEMI-THERM), 2015
Perforated floor tiles are used to supply cooling air from a subfloor pressurized plenum to server racks in raised floor data centers. Consideration of momentum rise due to acceleration of air through pores is critical for correctly predicting the flow field downstream of a perforated tile.

Polymer dispersions and their interaction with mortar constituents and ceramic tile surfaces studied by zeta-potential measurements and atomic force microscopy

Cement and Concrete Composites, 2012
The interaction between mineral surfaces and organic polymer dispersions with different monomer base and protective colloids as present in tile adhesive mortar systems was investigated by measuring the ζ-potential and by direct observation by atomic force microscopy (AFM).

Smart Piezoelectric Sensing Tile for Force Monitoring in Home Applications

Materials Research Proceedings
Abstract. This work represents a smart household energy system based on piezoelectric tiles designed to harvest mechanical energy from footsteps and allocate it intelligently according to ambient lighting conditions .Electricity demand in Morocco increased by 4% in 2023 to reach 44 TWh, while the country still imports almost 90% of its primary energy ...
