Experimental mathematics meets gravitational self-force

open access: yesPhysical Review D, 2015
It is now possible to compute linear in mass-ratio terms in the post-Newtonian (PN) expansion for compact binaries to very high orders using black hole perturbation theory applied to various invariants. For instance, a computation of the redshift invariant of a point particle in a circular orbit about a black hole in linear perturbation theory gives ...

Open questions about Ramsey-type statements in reverse mathematics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Ramsey's theorem states that for any coloring of the n-element subsets of N with finitely many colors, there is an infinite set H such that all n-element subsets of H have the same color.

Strolling through Paradise [PDF]

open access: yes, 1994
With each of the usual tree forcings I (e.g., I = Sacks forcing S, Laver forcing L, Miller forcing M, Mathias forcing R, etc.) we associate a sigma--ideal i^0 on the reals as follows: A \in i^0 iff for all T \in I there is S \leq T (i.e.

Consecutive singular cardinals and the continuum function [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We show that from a supercompact cardinal \kappa, there is a forcing extension V[G] that has a symmetric inner model N in which ZF + not AC holds, \kappa\ and \kappa^+ are both singular, and the continuum function at \kappa\ can be precisely controlled ...

A five element basis for the uncountable linear orders

open access: yes, 2005
In this paper I will show that it is relatively consistent with the usual axioms of mathematics (ZFC) together with a strong form of the axiom of infinity (the existence of a supercompact cardinal) that the class of uncountable linear orders has a five ...

MATHEMATICAL MODELS OF CUTTING FORCES DURING TURNING

open access: yesBulletin of the South Ural State University series "Mechanical engineering industry", 2023
This paper considers the predictive determination of the cutting force components for non-free cutting during turning. It has been established that plastic deformation and friction along the rear surfaces adjacent to the main and auxiliary cutting edges of the tool influence the magnitude and direction of the action of the component .

Exact solutions and physical analogies for unidirectional flows

open access: yes, 2016
Unidirectional flow is the simplest phenomenon of fluid mechanics. Its mathematical description, the Dirichlet problem for Poisson's equation in two dimensions with constant forcing, arises in many physical contexts, such as the torsion of elastic beams,

The weakness of being cohesive, thin or free in reverse mathematics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Informally, a mathematical statement is robust if its strength is left unchanged under variations of the statement. In this paper, we investigate the lack of robustness of Ramsey's theorem and its consequence under the frameworks of reverse mathematics ...

Phenotypic and genotypic characterization of single circulating tumor cells in the follow‐up of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Single circulating tumor cells (sCTCs) from high‐grade serous ovarian cancer patients were enriched, imaged, and genomically profiled using WGA and NGS at different time points during treatment. sCTCs revealed enrichment of alterations in Chromosomes 2, 7, and 12 as well as persistent or emerging oncogenic CNAs, supporting sCTC identity.

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.
