Arc and forearc rifting in the Tyrrhenian subduction system [PDF]
The evolution of forearc and backarc domains is usually treated separately, as they are separated by a volcanic arc. We analyse their spatial and temporal relationships in the Tyrrhenian subduction system, using seismic profiles and numerical modelling ...

Inner Forearc Stress State and Plate Coupling
The long‐term state of stress in the subduction forearc depends on the balance between margin‐normal compression due to the plate‐coupling force and the margin‐normal tension due to the gravitational force on the margin topography.

The Origin of Forearc Depressions
Forearc depressions form over continental subduction zones with young, slowly subducting slabs and thick trench fills. They are bound seaward by a coast range and landward by a volcanic arc such that subsidence in forearc depressions occurs between orogens and in areas characterized by plate convergence.

Sedimentation and viscosity controls on forearc highs
Crustal rheology and surface processes strongly influence strain distribution and shape of orogenic wedges at their front but how they influence the wedge rear is still unclear. Here, we analyze the coupled control of viscosity and sedimentation on forearc high growth during advanced stages of subduction accretion.

Forearc structures and deformation along the Manila Trench
The Manila Trench subduction zone is characterized by varying tectonic structures from north to south. Analyses of new seismic reflection data and bathymetric data indicate distinct morphological and deformational patterns in the forearc region ...

COH-fluid induced metasomatism of peridotites in the forearc mantle [PDF]
Devolatilization of subducting lithologies liberates COH-fluids. These may become partially sequestered in peridotites in the slab and the overlying forearc mantle, affecting the cycling of volatiles and fluid mobile elements in subduction zones. Here we

A Geomorphic Examination of the Calabrian Forearc Translation
AbstractThe evolution of subduction forearcs as archived in the tectonic and geomorphic record serves to constrain geodynamic models of many convergent plate margins. This paper presents geomorphic stream channel metrics and river longitudinal profile modeling to assess geodynamic models describing the late Cenozoic horizontal translation of a ...

ODP Leg 125 drilled nine sites in the Mariana and lzu-Bonin forearcs. Six sites were located on or adjacent to serpentinite seamounts between the outer-arc high and the trench, four (sites778-78 1) on the Conical Seamount in the Mariana forearc and two ...

First magmatism in the New England Batholith, Australia: forearc and arc–back-arc components in the Bakers Creek Suite gabbros [PDF]
The New England Orogen, eastern Australia, was established as an outboard extension of the Lachlan Orogen through the migration of magmatism into forearc basin and accretionary prism sediments.
