Automated Transcranial Photobiomodulation in Healthy Rats: Effects on Working Memory and Brain Markers

open access: yesAdvanced Therapeutics, EarlyView.
Transcranial photobiomodulation (PBM) enhances spatial working memory in healthy rats under both continuous and alternating stimulation protocols. At the neural level, PBM modulates cytochrome c oxidase activity, increases prefrontal and hippocampal synaptic markers, and induces region‐specific c‐Fos expression. These effects suggest improved cognitive

Usage of a rotational flap for coverage of a large central forehead defect

open access: yesGMS Interdisciplinary Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery DGPW, 2017
Background: The forehead is a donor site for facial reconstruction but has no generous donor site for its coverage. All options of the reconstructive ladder can be used.

Advances in Medical Devices for Augmented Acupuncture Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Traditional acupuncture therapy faces several challenges in clinical applications, such as complex operation procedures and prolonged therapeutic periods. By incorporating physical stimulations and drug delivery technologies, engineered acupuncture needles (EANs) can enhance therapeutic efficacy, improve patient compliance, as well as mitigate ...

A Comparative Study between Transcutaneous Bilirubinometry and Total Serum Bilirubin Measurement in Jaundiced Newborns

open access: yesمجله كليه طب الكندي, 2022
Background: Drawing blood to measure total serum bilirubin is painful & time consuming. Transcutaneous bilirubinometer working by multiwavelength spectral reflectance from the skin surface on forehead or upper sternum is a quick & painless technique.

The relationships between soil chemical properties and vegetation succession in the aspect of changes of distance from the glacier forehead and time elapsed after glacier retreat in the Irenebreen foreland (NW Svalbard)

open access: yesPlant and Soil, 2018
AimsThe aim of this study was to determine relationships between soil chemical parameters (i.e. content of total organic carbon, total nitrogen, total sulphur, soil pH) and vegetation development in relation to distance from the current glacier forehead ...

Protective and Collision‐Sensitive Gel‐Skin: Visco‐Elastomeric Polyvinyl Chloride Gel Rapidly Detects Robot Collision by Breaking Electrical Charge Accumulation Stability

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
For safe human–robot collaboration (HRC), a protective and collision‐sensitive robot skin is proposed. The developed robot skin, named Gel‐Skin, is composed of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) gel, which is a functional material with impact absorption capability and tunable piezoresistive characteristics based on electrical charge‐accumulation.

Optimal site for applying transcutaneous bilirubinometer as an outpatient screening tool for neonatal jaundice: a comparison between the sternum and forehead

open access: yesFrontiers in Pediatrics
BackgroundThe gold standard for assessing neonatal jaundice (NJ) is the serum total serum bilirubin (TSB) level by the diazo method. A transcutaneous bilirubinometer (TCB) provides a convenient, noninvasive readout within minutes.

Total Facelift: Forehead Lift, Midface Lift, and Neck Lift

open access: yesArchives of Plastic Surgery, 2015
Patients with thick skin mainly exhibit the aging processes of sagging, whereas patients with thin skin develop wrinkles or volume loss. Asian skin is usually thicker than that of Westerners; and thus, the sagging of skin due to aging, rather than ...

Smart Denture with Embedded Thin‐Film Temperature Sensors Patterned by Femtosecond Laser Pulse for Elderly Healthcare

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, Volume 7, Issue 3, March 2025.
We demonstrate the direct‐laser patterning of a gold thin film on polymethyl methacrylate to fabricate a temperature sensor for dentures. The temperature sensor‐embedded smart dentures are evaluated in an oral environment, enabling in‐situ monitoring for elderly healthcare.
