Mechanically Compliant, Precision‐Porous Brain Implants Reduce the Foreign Body Reaction and Guide Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study explores how the brain responds to implants of different properties. Hydrogels with various mechanical properties and pore sizes were implanted in adult rat brains. It is observed that hydrogels with mechanical property closely matched to the brain and 40 µm pore size elicit a pro‐healing response from the brain by modulating the immune ...

Nanomaterial Strategies for Pulmonary Delivery of Immunotherapeutics in Lung Cancer Treatment

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Inhalable immunotherapeutic nanomedicines enable organ‐selective immune modulation by overcoming pulmonary delivery barriers and concentrating therapy within lung tumors. This Review defines how nanomaterial properties govern airway deposition, retention, cellular partitioning, and immune activation across vaccines, checkpoint blockade, STING agonists,

Oxygels: Tunable Phosphorescent Hydrogels for Cherenkov‐Excited Luminescence Imaging (CELI) of Oxygen

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Biocompatible hydrogels with covalently embedded near‐infrared phosphorescent probes enable local tissue pO2 quantification by means of Cherenkov‐excited luminescence imaging (CELI), where optical excitation occurs within tissues upon irradiation with high‐energy electron beams.

Planners versus Searchers in Foreign Aid

open access: yesAsian Development Review, 2006
Only for the recipients of foreign aid is something akin to central planning seen as a way to achieve prosperity. The end of poverty is achieved with free markets and democracy—where decentralized “searchers” look for ways to meet individual needs—not ...

A Novel Drug‐Loaded Porous Parylene Electrode for Targeted Anti‐Inflammatory Therapy and Hearing Preservation in Cochlear Implantation

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A porous parylene‐coated electrode loaded with dexamethasone was developed to reduce inflammation after cochlear implantation. In guinea pigs, the device provided sustained drug release, maintained biocompatibility, improved auditory brainstem response thresholds, and reduced inflammatory cell infiltration and TNF‐α expression.

Buying Silence: Maritime Disputes in the South China Sea and Chinese Aid Allocation Patterns for Target Countries

open access: yesJournal of East Asian Studies
How does China strategically allocate foreign aid to increase its influence on South China Sea disputes? We posit that China uses foreign aid as a tool of strategic appeasement to manage militarized interstate disputes, particularly targeting claimant ...

Foreign Aid and Economic Development in Sub-Saharan Africa: The Mediating Role of Governance Effectiveness

open access: yesManaging Global Transitions, 2021
This paper aims to analyse the effect of foreign aid, moderated by governance effectiveness variables, on economic development in sub-Saharan Africa. Data on foreign aid, GDP and governance variables were from the World Bank governance archives covering ...

Keberhasilan Bantuan Luar Negeri di Asia Timur Laut: Sebuah Pembelajaran Bagi Negara Berkembang

open access: yesAndalas Journal of International Studies, 2020
After the second world war, Northeast Asian countries such as Japan, South Korea, China and Taiwan, were recipient countries of foreign aid. Then, the countries changed its status from the recipient countries to the donor countries.

Laser‐Assisted Phase Engineering of 2D MoS2 for Efficient Solution‐Processed Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Here, local laser‐assisted phase transition from solution‐processed phase‐pure 1T′ to 2H MoS2 is shown to critically depend on the irradiation atmosphere. While processing in air leads to damaged insulating regions, inert conditions yield semiconducting 2H domains, enabling direct field‐effect transistor patterning with optimized lateral 1T′‐2H MoS2 ...
