Foreign body aspiration in adult airways: therapeutic approach.

open access: yesJournal of Thoracic Disease, 2017
Tracheobronchial foreign body (FB) aspiration is an uncommon but potentially life-threatening event in adults. Symptoms typically consist of a choking event followed by cough and dyspnea, however, these findings are inconsistent and symptoms may mimic ...

“Therapies Through Gut:” Targeted Drug Delivery for Non‐Gastrointestinal Diseases by Oral Administration

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Schematic illustration of the mechanism of targeted delivery of nanoparticles including 1) paracellular, 2) endolysosomal escape, 3) receptor mediated endocytosis, and 4) M cell mediated transport for non‐GI diseases by oral administration such as atherosclerosis, cancer, diabetes, and brain diseases. Abstract Oral drug delivery is a promising approach

Does Foreign Debt Contribute to Economic Growth? [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
We study the relationship between foreign debt and GDP growth using a panel dataset of 50 countries from 1997 to 2015. We find that economic growth correlates positively with foreign debt and that the relationship is causal in nature by using the sovereign credit default swap spread as an instrumental variable.

"Peri-Implantitis": A Complication of a Foreign Body or a Man-Made "Disease". Facts and Fiction.

open access: yesClinical Implant Dentistry and Related Research, 2016
BACKGROUND The discrepancy between some scientific views and the daily clinical experience with dental implants has made the topic of "periimplantitis" highly controversial, especially the discussion whether "periimplantitis" should even be considered a "

Universal Hydrogel Carrier Enhances Bone Graft Success: Preclinical and Clinical Evaluation

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
TX hydrogel improves the delivery of different types of particulate bone grafts, maintaining them at the implantation sites, and resulting in favorable bone regenerative outcomes. Abstract Orthopedic, maxillofacial, and complex dentoalveolar bone grafting procedures that require donor‐site bone harvesting can be associated with post‐surgical ...

Foreign body reaction (immune respond) for artificial implants can be avoided [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
Despite on great success with artificial implant for human body, the modern implants could not solve major health problems. The reason is an immune reaction of organism on artificial implant known as foreign body reaction. We have found a way to avoid or decrease the foreign body reaction.

Unsupervised foreign object detection based on dual-energy absorptiometry in the food industry [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
X-ray imaging is a widely used technique for non-destructive inspection of agricultural food products. One application of X-ray imaging is the autonomous, in-line detection of foreign objects in food samples. Examples of such inclusions are bone fragments in meat products, plastic and metal debris in fish, fruit infestations.

Invasive Intraneural Interfaces: Foreign Body Reaction Issues

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroscience, 2017
Intraneural interfaces are stimulation/registration devices designed to couple the peripheral nervous system (PNS) with the environment. Over the last years, their use has increased in a wide range of applications, such as the control of a new generation

Hydrogel Adhesive Integrated‐Microstructured Electrodes for Cuff‐Free, Less‐Invasive, and Stable Interface for Vagus Nerve Stimulation

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
In this study, a cuff‐free, less‐invasive surgical approach for vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) by combining ultrathin Y‐shaped kirigami electrodes is developed with a chemically cross‐linked hydrogel adhesive (hydrogel‐kirigami). Unlike conventional cuff implantation, which may damage nerves and nearby critical vessels, this new technique minimizes ...

How T-cells use large deviations to recognize foreign antigens [PDF]

open access: yesJ. Math. Biol. 57 (2008), 841-861, 2006
A stochastic model for the activation of T-cells is analysed. T-cells are part of the immune system and recognize foreign antigens against a background of the body's own molecules. The model under consideration is a slight generalization of a model introduced by Van den Berg, Rand and Burroughs in 2001, and is capable of explaining how this recognition
