AbstractA 32‐year‐old woman collapsed following an intravenous injection of material that included crushed pharmaceutical tablets. Resuscitation was attempted but was unsuccessful. It was the development of enzymic methods of protoplast isolation in the 1960s that allowed the preparation of large numbers of isolated protoplasts. An isolated protoplast may be defined as a plant cell that has had its outer wall removed; therefore the only boundary between the cell contents and the external environment is the plasma membrane.

The Material Deprivation of Foreigners: Measurement and Determinants

We examine the material deprivation of foreigners on a sub-sample of the 2009 Italian Survey on Income and Living Conditions carried out by Istat. We employ an index of material deprivation that takes into account the regional level of analysis, and relies on the assignment of weights to deprivation items.
