Parasites in Forensic Science: a historic perspective [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Parasites show a great potential to Forensic Science. Forensic Science is the application of any science and methodology to the legal system. The forensic scientist collects and analyses the physical evidence and produce a report of the results to the ...

De Novo Reconstruction of 3D Human Facial Images from DNA Sequence

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study introduces Difface, a novel deep‐learning model for reconstructing 3D facial images only from DNA data. By integrating transformer networks, spiral convolutions, and a diffusion model, Difface directly aligns high‐dimensional SNP data with 3D facial structures.

Forensic Science: Oxymoron? [PDF]

open access: yesScience, 2003
I n detective novels and television series, criminals often get caught because they leave fingerprints at the scene. Well, art does imitate life; fingerprint analysis is widely used in U.S. courts and those of many other countries. But last year a funny thing happened to fingerprint evidence on the way to a conviction. Applying the standard set for the

SMC4 Promotes Prostate Cancer Cell Proliferation and Metastasis via the Rheb/mTOR Pathway

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Structural maintenance of chromosome protein 4 (SMC4) has been implicated in prostate cancer metastasis. Knockdown of SMC4 in RM1‐LM cells significantly attenuates proliferation, migration, and lung metastasis in vivo. Furthermore, SMC4 interacts with GLUT1 (Slc2a1), thereby enhancing glycolysis, ATP production, and activation of the Rheb/mTOR pathway.

Nanogenerator Neuromodulation to Enable Locomotion Rehabilitation for Spinal Cord Injury via Epidural Electrical Stimulation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A hybrid nanogenerator (H‐NG) has been developed to be applied in epidural electrical stimulation (EES). Compared with a commercial stimulus generator (SG), the H‐NG can elicit hindlimb locomotion in rats with much lower electrical parameters and much smaller individual differences.

Gradient Nanostructures and Machine Learning Synergy for Robust Quantitative Surface‐Enhanced Raman Scattering

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A novel SERS platform using gradient nanostructures and machine learning is presented. Gradient nanostructures minimize fabrication variability and enhance spectral diversity. The ML model significantly improves quantification precision, robustness and reproducibility, reducing test MSE by 84.8% and increasing R2 by 61.2%, enabling reliable real‐world ...

A crosswalk from medical bioethics to Forensic Bioethics

open access: yesForensic Science International: Synergy, 2019
There is much common ground between the fields of medicine and forensic science, however the comprehensive framework of bioethics does not have a conceptual counterpart in forensics.
