Leaf nutrient traits of planted forests demonstrate a heightened sensitivity to environmental changes compared to natural forests

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science
Leaf nutrient content (nitrogen, phosphorus) and their stoichiometric ratio (N/P) as key functional traits can reflect plant survival strategies and predict ecosystem productivity responses to environmental changes.

Vârste ale exploatabilității tehnice pentru principalele specii forestiere din România [Technical harvesting ages of the main forest species in Romania] [PDF]

open access: yesBucovina Forestieră, 2017
Technical harvesting ages were calculated for the main wood species in Romania: Norway spruce, silver fir, Austrian pine, European larch, European beech, sessile oak, pedunculated oak, Turkey oak, Hungarian oak, European hornbeam, silver birch, silver ...

De novo synthesis of short‐chain aldehydes and hydrocarbons secreted by the brown marmorated stink bug Halyomorpha halys

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The brown marmorated stink bug, Halyomorpha halys, mainly secretes 4‐oxo‐(E)‐2‐hexenal, (E)‐2‐decenal, dodecane and tridecane, a mixture representative of that released by many heteropterans. We demonstrated that H. halys can synthesise these secretory components de novo using dietary glucose.

Temporal Variations in Aboveground Biomass, Nutrient Content, and Ecological Stoichiometry in Young and Middle-Aged Stands of Chinese Fir Forests

open access: yesPlants
Understanding the ecological dynamics of forest ecosystems, particularly the influence of forest age structure on soil carbon (C), nitrogen (N), and phosphorus (P) content, is crucial for effective forest management and conservation.

Using cell‐free RNA to identify B‐ and T‐cell clonality for diagnosis and monitoring of B‐ and T‐cell neoplasms

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Using peripheral blood for determining B‐cell or T‐cell clonality is more reliable when we use cell‐free RNA (cfRNA) because cells release blood significantly more RNA than DNA. Next‐generation sequencing (NGS) of cfRNA allows us to evaluate fragment cfRNA and evaluate clonality reliably without the need for prior determination of the specific dominant

A Low Psoas Muscle Index Was Associated With a Poorer Overall Survival in Patients Who Underwent Percutaneous Nephrostomy

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
In patients with malignant ureteral obstruction undergoing percutaneous nephrostomy, sarcopenia defined by a low psoas muscle index was independently associated with poor overall survival on multivariate Cox regression analysis, suggesting that preoperative assessment of psoas muscle index may aid prognostic stratification in this population.

Comparison of the approach to determination of the rotation period of forest stands in the Czech Republic and in the Slovak Republic

open access: yesJournal of Forest Science, 2022
The exact determination of the rotation period is still a current and important essential issue of forestry. It attracts the attention of forest economists, managers and owners worldwide, not only of forest economists but also of forest managers.

Understanding and Mitigating the Risk of Accelerated Biological Aging in Survivors of Cancer: A Scoping Review

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
Cancer treatment is associated with measurable acceleration of biological aging across epigenetic, telomere, senescence, and immune biomarkers. However, biomarker validation and interventional strategies remain limited, especially in hematologic malignancies, underscoring the need for standardized multi‐omic aging assessments and adequately powered ...

Self‐Regulated Learning Meets AI: Reinterpreting Self‐Regulation, Co‐Regulation, and Socially Shared Regulation in Human–AI Interaction

open access: yesNew Directions for Adult and Continuing Education, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Advancing artificial intelligence (AI) has transformed learning and work, yet higher education and professional development programs have not systematically equipped learners for AI‐prevalent environments. This lack of preparation creates uncertainty regarding control, responsibility, trust, and accountability.

Forest age estimation using UAV-LiDAR and Sentinel-2 data with machine learning algorithms- a case study of Masson pine (Pinus massoniana)

open access: yesGeo-spatial Information Science
The assessment of ecological functions, such as those of forest structure zoning and carbon sinks, heavily relies on forest age classification. Therefore, monitoring forest age is a crucial element of forest resource surveys.
