U.S. climate-smart agricultural and forestry incentives: from offsets to clean energy credits

open access: yesAgricultural and Resource Economics Review
Climate-smart agricultural and forestry (CSAF) practices prevent greenhouse gas emissions from occurring or increase carbon sequestration. I examine how the development of U.S. CSAF incentives shifted from offset markets to biofuel regulations over time.

Area-based vs tree-centric approaches to mapping forest carbon in Southeast Asian forests from airborne laser scanning data

open access: yes, 2017
Tropical forests are a key component of the global carbon cycle, and mapping their carbon density is essential for understanding human influences on climate and for ecosystem-service-based payments for forest protection.

Eutectic Gallium‐Indium as a Potential Non‐Toxic Replacement in Mercury Intrusion Porosimetry

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A practical alternative to mercury intrusion porosimetry is presented using non‐oxidized eutectic gallium‐indium. An eGaIn Filling Station enables oxygen‐free preparation of standard penetrometers, and the resulting measurements faithfully reproduce pore‐size distributions and intrusion volumes measured with mercury across several standard reference ...

Integrating Social Capital into Institutional Analysis of the Guangxi CDM Forest-based Carbon Sequestration Project [PDF]

open access: yes
Paying developing countries for carbon sequestration is a vital component of climate change mitigation. If appropriately designed, these payments can also transfer income to poor villagers, which can help achieve the goals of long-term sustainability for

Conformable Ferrimagnetic Tattoo Electrodes for Plant Electrophysiology

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
The newly developed ferrimagnetic tattoo electrode is capable of measuring plant electrophysiological activity outside the Faraday cage. Its ability to adhere without damaging the plant tissue allows long‐term recordings. This premise opens new avenues for in‐field monitoring of plant health through electrophysiology.

Land-Use Change and Carbon Sinks: Econometric Estimation of the Carbon Sequestration Supply Function [PDF]

open access: yes
When and if the United States chooses to implement a greenhouse gas reduction program, it will be necessary to decide whether carbon sequestration policies, such as those that promote forestation and discourage deforestation, should be part of the ...
