Different contexts, same concerns? Wood gap and forest restoration in Indonesia and Cameroon [PDF]
The gap between demand and supply of sustainable wood, in countries rich forest with a poor governance, is one of the major causes of forest degradation.

Forest ecosystem degradation and rehabilitation
Abstract The degradation of forest ecosystems may be attributed to various natural and anthropogenic factors such as climatical extremes, biotic stresses, selection of tree species, harvesting regimes, litter raking, off-site amelioration measures, former land use, air pollutant deposition and soil acidification, as caused by internal and external ...

Single‐ and Dual‐Atom Configurations in Atomically Dispersed Catalysts for Lithium–Sulfur Batteries
Single‐atom and dual‐atom‐based atomically dispersed catalysts (ADCs) effectively address the shuttle effect and sluggish redox kinetics in Li–S batteries. With nearly 100% atomic utilization and tunable coordination environments, ADCs enhance LiPSs adsorption, lower conversion barriers, and accelerate sulfur redox reactions.

Nanodiamond Quantum Sensors for Probing Free Radical Biology
Free radicals play key roles in cellular signaling and disease but remain difficult to measure in living systems. Nanodiamonds (NDs) with nitrogen‐vacancy (NV) centers enable quantum sensing of local magnetic noise via T₁ relaxometry, providing nondestructive radical detection in living cells.

Assessment of forest degradation in the Amazon using multi-sensors techniques: the case of Paragominas (Brazil). O-2215-01 [PDF]
The Amazonian pioneer front region is a mosaic of different forests types and agricultural landscapes resulting from the colonization of the region through forest conversion into pasture and agricultural lands.

Degradation of Forest Reserves in Asunafo Forest District, Ghana
Forest reserve degradation is a global concern because it is a storage facility of global biodiversity. In addition, forest reserves contain the wealth of several poor countries, particularly in Africa. Such is the situation in Ghana, which possesses portions of the tropical African rainforest.

Inspired by natural silicified wood, a biomimetic mineralized chitin‐derived aerogel is constructed. It can withstand 81 000 times its own weight, and its backside temperature is 130.4°C after exposure to ∼1300°C butane flame for 600 s, exhibiting high‐strength, fire‐resistance, and super thermal‐insulation properties.

Degradation in edge forests caused by forest fragmentation
Abstract Deforestation turns intact forests into fragments and creates edge forests. These edge forests experience degradation due to edge effects and may become vulnerable to climate extremes such as drought and fire. Estimating carbon dynamics in fragmented forests requires accurately mapping these edge forests, along with incorporating ...
