Vegetation response to a short interval between high-severity wildfires in a mixed-evergreen forest [PDF]
1 Variations in disturbance regime strongly influence ecosystem structure and function. A prominent form of such variation is when multiple high-severity wildfires occur in rapid succession (i.e. short-interval (SI) severe fires, or ‘re-burns’).

ABSTRACT Introduction Firefighters may experience occupational exposure to per‐ and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). Volunteer firefighters make up 65% of the US fire service, but their serum PFAS profiles have not been well characterized. This study aims to (1) describe PFAS serum profiles among US volunteer firefighters from 9 states enrolled in ...

ABSTRACT Carbon capture technologies are poised to become one of the primary focuses regarding the achievement of net‐zero emissions by the year 2050. In these technologies, particular attention is given to post‐combustion CO2 capture, which is more easily implemented at existing power stations and other industries.

Synthesis of a Novel Amine‐Based Curing Agent for Epoxy Resins Derived From Vanillin
The four‐step synthesis of a new bio‐based amine hardener is described starting from vanillin as a bio‐based compound. The hardener ADBA was utilized to cure DGEBA and the resulting Tg,tanδmax was determined via DMA. Compared to other bio‐based curing agents, our curing agent is obtainable in a high yield and leads to a superior Tg of 135°C.

Three‐dimensional digital analysis of musteloid masticatory muscle architecture
Musteloids span an enormous breadth of dietary modes within a single superfamily. In this study, we utilize digital dissection techniques to reconstruct the internal 3D anatomy of muscles within the musteloid feeding apparatus, and explore how dietary specializations might alter the size, orientation, and curvature of fascicles therein.

A Review of Fire Interactions and Mass Fires
The character of a wildland fire can change dramatically in the presence of another nearby fire. Understanding and predicting the changes in behavior due to fire-fire interactions cannot only be life-saving to those on the ground, but also be used to ...
