Planning Wildfire Evacuation in the Wildland–Urban Interfaces of Central Portugal

open access: yesFire
In recent decades, wildfires have become common disasters that threaten people’s lives and assets, particularly in wildland–urban interfaces (WUIs). Developing an effective evacuation strategy for a WUI presents challenges to emergency planners because ...

Faktor-Faktor Yang Mempengaruhi Kebakaran Hutan Di Indonesia Dan Implikasi Kebijakannya

open access: yesJurnal Sylva Lestari, 2015
Forest fire is one of the crucial environmental and forestry issues as well as local and global concern. The longstanding efforts have been conducted to overcome this problem, but the success was relatively low.

Seven-dimensional forest fires

open access: yes, 2015
We show that in high dimensional Bernoulli percolation, removing from a thin infinite cluster a much thinner infinite cluster leaves an infinite component.

Spatio-Temporal Characteristics of Ice–Snow Freezing and Its Impact on Subtropical Forest Fires in China

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2023
Ice–snow freezing may disrupt the growth condition and structure of forest vegetation, increasing combustible loads and thus triggering forest fires. China’s subtropical regions are rich in forest resources, but are often disturbed by ice–snow freezing ...

Harnessing Fungal Biowelding for Constructing Mycelium‐Engineered Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mycelium‐bound composites (MBCs) offer low‐carbon alternatives for construction, yet interfacial bonding remains a critical challenge. This review examines fungal biowelding as a biocompatible adhesive, elucidating mycelium‐mediated interfacial mechanisms and their role in material assembly. Strategies to optimize biowelding are discussed, highlighting

Using Artificial Intelligence to Estimate the Probability of Forest Fires in Heilongjiang, Northeast China

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2021
Although low-intensity forest fires are a necessary part of healthy echo system, high-intensity forest fires continue to affect the diversity of forest ecosystems and species.

A Termite‐Inspired Alternative to Cement

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A termite‐inspired composite of clay, cellulose, and lignin forms a dense fibrous network with concrete‐like strength (32 MPa) and superior elasticity, processed at ambient temperature. Abstract Clay combined with organic materials is used by termites as a strong and durable construction material for their mounds with minimal environmental impact. Here,

Forest fires in Southwest Bulgaria (2015–2024) in the context of national wildfire activity [PDF]

open access: yesSilva Balcanica
Forest fires are an important driver of forest ecosystem dynamics in Bulgaria, and recent decades have been characterized by more frequent and sometimes extreme fire seasons.

Designing Asymmetric Memristive Behavior in Proton Mixed Conductors for Neuromorphic Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Protonic devices that couple ionic and electronic transport are demonstrated as bioinspired neuromorphic elements. The devices exhibit rubber‐like asymmetric memristive behavior with slow voltage‐driven conductance increase and rapid relaxation, enabling simplified read–write operation.

Unveiling the Role of Curvature in Carbon for Improved Energy Release of Ammonium Perchlorate

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
High‐curvature carbon materials identified via machine learning and simulation can enhance the heat release and combustion performance of ammonium perchlorate. ABSTRACT The catalytic role of carbon curvature in the thermal decomposition of ammonium perchlorate (AP) remains largely unexplored. To address this gap, this study employs machine learning and
