Accurate acquisition of the spatiotemporal distribution of urban forests and fragmentation (e.g., interior and intact regions) is of great significance to contributing to the mitigation of climate change and the conservation of habitat biodiversity ...

Global-Scale Patterns of Forest Fragmentation [PDF]
We report an analysis of forest fragmentation based on 1-km resolution land-cover maps for the globe. Measurements in analysis windows from 81 km 2 (9 x 9 pixels, "small" scale) to 59,049 km 2 (243 x 243 pixels, "large" scale) were used to characterize ...

The Relationship of Forest Fragmentation to Scots Pine Forest Mortality
Forest mortality (FM) is influenced by several independent factors, including forest fragmentation (FF) at different spatial scales and multi-scales, site conditions, and stand characteristics.

Natural ecosystems are declining and fragmenting globally at unprecedented rates. Fragmentation of natural ecosystems leads to decline in functions and services with severe impact on people.

Detecting fragmentation extinction thresholds for forest understory plant species in peninsular Spain. [PDF]
Ecological theory predicts that fragmentation aggravates the effects of habitat loss, yet empirical results show mixed evidences, which fail to support the theory instead reinforcing the primary importance of habitat loss.

Tropical Forest Landscape Fragmentation in Batang Toru Watershed, North Sumatra
Timber-based forest management is now shifting to as broader scope including ecosystem-based management. Timber-oriented forest management frequently affects the fragmentation of forest landscape.

Forest birds in forest fragments: are fragmentation effects independent of season? [PDF]
The aim of this study was to examine whether effects of habitat fragmentation on forest birds persist across seasons. W e noted the presence or absence of 18 bird species in 16 wood plots on 12 occasions (six in winter and six in spring). Woodland area ranged between 0.5 and 200 ha. All patches consisted of mature deciduous woodland.

The fate of tropical forest fragments
Tropical forest loss increases as fragment size decreases, a relationship driven by primary forest loss.

Discerning fragmentation dynamics of tropical forest and wetland during reforestation, urban sprawl, and policy shifts. [PDF]
Despite the overall trend of worldwide deforestation over recent decades, reforestation has also been found and is expected in developing countries undergoing fast urbanization and agriculture abandonment.

Forests play an irreplaceable role in preserving soil and water, as well as realizing carbon neutrality. However, logging and urban expansion have caused widespread forest fragmentation globally, resulting in biodiversity loss and carbon emissions ...
