Forest height estimation from X-band SAR

Proceedings. 2004, 2004Forest stand height is an important indicator of standing biomass for management purposes as well as for the assessment of carbon storage. In this paper we assess Intermap Star-3i X-band SAR interferometry products for forest height estimation. DEM data sets are initially assessed for accuracy, and are then used to estimate forest height.

SAR radargrammetry and scanning LiDAR in predicting forest canopy height
2012 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2012Our objective was to evaluate the accuracy of estimating forest canopy height when using scanning LiDAR and TerraSAR-X stereo radargrammetry. The study area was located in southern Finland. We used SAR radargrammetry and LiDAR to extract 3D point clouds to derive predictors used in the non-parametric prediction of forest canopy height.
