Tree-heights derived from radar profiles over boreal forests
Agricultural and Forest Meteorology, 1999In this paper, results are presented from NOPEX-measurements over boreal forests using an helicopter-borne multi-band radar profiler. Comparisons are made between tree height profiling responses at three different frequency bands (5, 14 and 35 GHz). Values derived from radar profiles are also compared with maximum tree-height and stem volume per ha ...

Extinction threshold for spatial forest dynamics with height structure
Journal of Theoretical Biology, 2011We present a pair-approximation model for spatial forest dynamics defined on a regular lattice. The model assumes three possible states for a lattice site: empty (gap site), occupied by an immature tree, and occupied by a mature tree, and considers three nonlinearities in the dynamics associated to the processes of light interference, gap expansion ...

Forest Height Estimation in Tropical Rain Forest using Pol-InSAR Techniques
2006 IEEE International Symposium on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, 2006Tropical rain forest environments are highly complex and heterogeneous in terms of species composition and structure and is often difficult to access. Radar remote sensing is for large tropical regions the only available information source for monitoring.

A comparison between various definitions of forest stand height and aerodynamic canopy height
Agricultural and Forest Meteorology, 2010A consistent measure of forest canopy height is required for among-site comparisons of meteorological properties and for comparison of model results such as distributions of wind and other scalars calculated by large eddy simulations with observations.

Forest height inversion based on polarimetric SAR interferometry
2008 9th International Conference on Signal Processing, 2008To extract the forest height accurately and quickly based on polarimetric SAR interferometry, a forest height inversion method is proposed, based on the polarimetric interferometric model (PolIn-model). A credit (linearity measurement) of height inversion is introduced.

Height growth–rate at a given height: A mathematical perspective for forest productivity
Ecological Modelling, 2020Abstract Understanding the height growth of trees is a fundamental component for scientific knowledge and management of forest ecosystems. The height of dominant trees at a reference-age, commonly known as the site-index, is the most widely used forest productivity indicator globally.
