Forest height estimation from X-band SAR

IEEE International IEEE International IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2004. IGARSS '04. Proceedings. 2004, 2004
Forest stand height is an important indicator of standing biomass for management purposes as well as for the assessment of carbon storage. In this paper we assess Intermap Star-3i X-band SAR interferometry products for forest height estimation. DEM data sets are initially assessed for accuracy, and are then used to estimate forest height.

Forest Height Estimation in Tropical Rain Forest using Pol-InSAR Techniques

2006 IEEE International Symposium on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, 2006
Tropical rain forest environments are highly complex and heterogeneous in terms of species composition and structure and is often difficult to access. Radar remote sensing is for large tropical regions the only available information source for monitoring.

A comparison between various definitions of forest stand height and aerodynamic canopy height

Agricultural and Forest Meteorology, 2010
A consistent measure of forest canopy height is required for among-site comparisons of meteorological properties and for comparison of model results such as distributions of wind and other scalars calculated by large eddy simulations with observations.

Robust TomoSAR focusing for forest height retrieval

2018 IEEE International Conference on Environmental Engineering (EE), 2018
This paper aims to discuss and present analysis on robust reconstruction of vertical structure of forested area suing multi-baseline synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data. To deal with problem of low signal to noise (SNR) ratio, robust non-local (NL) techniques of covariance matrix estimation are employed and compared with classical multi-looking ...

A forest canopy height surface model for scene simulation

SIMULATION, 1987
A model of forest canopy heights can support realistic remote sensing scene simulation. The final pixel (x, y) array of canopy heights results from merging structural and statistical sub-models. The structural model considers tree crowns to be structural primitives and permits explicit specification of forest structural characteristics (crown forms ...

Bat Activity at Nacelle Height Over Forest

2017
The number of wind power facilities (wind farms) has rapidly increased in Germany, with a number of these constructed in forested areas. As most bat species use forests to forage and roost, concerns have been raised in relation to the potentially higher collision risk with wind turbines in forests than in open landscapes.
