Mechanical site preparation for forest restoration
New Forests, 2012Forest restoration projects have become increasingly common around the world and planting trees is almost always a key component. Low seedling survival and growth may result in restoration failures and various mechanical site preparation techniques for treatment of soils and vegetation are important tools used to help counteract this.

<div class="htmlview paragraph">The need for small, versatile, relatively low cost forest oriented timber harvesting equipment is a natural outgrowth of forest management as expressed through logging. Logging initially was dominated by horse energy, then by the adaptation of construction machinery to woods use, and now by woods equipment of ...

Journal of Forestry, 1947
Abstract Interest in improving output per man-day through introducing mechanized equipment is widespread. Not all devices that save labor produce savings in operating costs, particularly if they involve heavy fixed costs. The author discusses a few new developments and points out what they mean to the planner of forest operations.

Forests as Capital: Financial Mechanisms for Tropical Forest Conservation
Journal of Sustainable Forestry, 2015Tropical forest loss and degradation due to human activities have been persistent and intractable global problems. Model estimates suggest that current levels of finance for conservation and sustainable forest management (SFM) are insufficient and may need to increase by an order of magnitude in order to meet this challenge. This special issue presents

Incentive mechanisms to enforce sustainable forest exploitation
Environmental Modeling & Assessment, 2006Using a two-player differential game approach, this paper deals with the issue of tropical deforestation. The assumption is that developing forestry countries (called the South) do not, or cannot, necessarily have the same utility for forest conservation than the developed countries (called the North).

Mechanization of agrotechnical tending forest nurseries

Forest Mechanization — A Challenge to the Industry
SAE Technical Paper Series, 1967<div class="htmlview paragraph">An increasing demand for wood, accompanied by a decreasing supply of labor, is forcing the timber industry to mechanize. As industry strives towards the goal of complete mechanization, a number of challenges will be encountered.

Industrial Forests and Mechanical Marvels
2016An account of modernization and technological innovation in nineteenth-century Brazil that provides a distinctly Brazilian perspective. Existing scholarship on the period describes the beginnings of Brazilian modernization as a European or North American import dependent on foreign capital, transfers of technology, and philosophical inspiration ...

Mechanisms for Avoiding Deforestation and Forest Degradation
2012Large amounts of carbon are stored in natural forests, mainly in the tropics. Deforestation causes the emission of most of the stored carbon into the atmosphere, either by burning of slashed wood, or gradual decay. The scale of emissions from deforestation makes it imperative for the international community to take action.
